Tarfire

It's a Gobin Shock. Does anyone even play Shock? I think they just play Rift Bolt or Incinerate-- 2 damage doesn't look too attractive. Does the Goblin subtype matter? I suppose in Limited or in a very dedicated archetype it would. Also Tarmogoyf likes it, but I think I'd rather just use Blades of Velis Vel to do all the same things this does, and get more damage.

Tarfire

Some people I know have taken to calling this card "Tarmofire" because of the spectacular stuff that happens when you combine this with Tarmogoyf. It's basically better than Shock in a deck with Tarmogoyf, Goblin Matron, or Lorwyn's goblin recursion cards. Get used to seeing this card in constructed events. Tarfire is easily one of the best cards for Lorwyn limited. There's not much removal or direct damage in that environment, and removal that you can find with a Boggart Harbinger or recur with Warren Pilferers is ridiculous good.

Tarfire

It's a Shock, but it gives +2/+2 to Tarmagoyf instead. Tarmagoyf is still really good.

It also kills a lot of those weaker creatures which wrecks a lot of the infrastructure which tribal decks often need, and that's just what Aggro wants.

Constructed: 4/5, maybe I'm a bit crazy here

Wednesday's card is Tarfire from Lorwyn.  It looks like Shock, except that it counts as a Goblin thanks to being a Tribal Instant.  This means you can use a number of search options to find it, notably Boggart Harbringer, but there are older cards that can find it such as Goblin Matron and Mogg Catcher.  Cheap creature removal that is this easy to pull out of your deck is rare especially for red, but this card will be a staple in any deck running Goblins especially Lorwyn Goblins.  By the way, it can also be returned to your hand from the graveyard as well with various reanimate Goblin cards.

Limited:5/5(Pull this and Boggart Harbringer for easy to find creature kill)
Constructed:5/5(A good Goblin deck with the Lorwyn animation options can keep the damage coming again and again)
