Ivory Mask is the quintessential "you can't touch me" card for white. It's a great sideboard card, and it's coming back in 8th Edition.  Wizards seems to be going through a good amount of effort to balance out the power of the different colors, and this is an excellent addition to white. While Wizards has been throwing White some good cards of late, for white weenie for instance, it still hasn't achieved enough for white to be anything more than a splash. Maybe 8th Edition will give it enough boost to where we'll actually see mono white come back to some degree.

Ivory Mask

This week, we're looking at some more 8th Edition cards. Today, we start out with one of my favorites from Mercadian Masques, Ivory Mask.

The untargetability that Ivory Mask gives you is an ability I feel that is very basic, yet very useful for white to have. The fact that it is an enchantment, rather than a creature (True Believer) or one turn effect (Gilded Light) makes it really hard for the two colors you want to use it against, red and black, to remove. All in all, a very strong sideboard card, and a card that will see some play in many games 2 and 3 for the next 2 years.

In limited, this is not so useful, as the number of effects you typically have that target a player are few, and there are even less of them in the base set.

This card is just Anti-Burn. when you think White has reached it's turtleing
limit they send this baby out. True Believer does the same job, except one
is an enchantment, and ones a creature. I would rather use the Ivory Mask,
since enchantments are harder to get rid of then creatures are. This is
purely a sideboard card btw.
