This Weeks Card Selector:

My Wife :)

This card can do the two things blue control needs - stop a threat and give you time.  Things that can do that all for 3 mana and one card is an MVP in my book.

In limited it's a counterspell.  Three life is not usually gamebreaking, though it's nothing to spit on either

Constructed - 4.5
Limited - 3
Current Price - $8.95

Absorb is an excellent counter spell for U/W decks. Although it costs W more than the regular UU Counterspell the 3 life it gains you is a nice bonus. It is excellent in constructed and about as good as any other counterspell card in limited if you are playing U/W.

First, take your basic Counterspell. Next add Healing Salve. Put them together, and what do you get? A card that fits right into a U/W control deck. The ability to gain 3 life has kept me alive quite a few times. And it frequently will for you, too, as most agressive decks are geared to do 20 damage in the time it would take you to take control, not 23-26 damage.

In limited, most of the time, I'll play one of these. It's good to have one way to deal with something that you couldn't otherwise deal with. But any more than one counterspell is typically overkill in limited.

Absorb is really good in both formats.  I always love
taking them (counters) in draft to screw with my
opponent.  It also runs great with the rest of the
blue stuff in Invasion limited.  Plus, who can argue
with first-picking a $10 card.  In constructed, Absorb
fits right into U/W control and Trenches (both are
obvious) and is great against annoying crap like Sligh
or Stompy.
