Koa’ki Meiru Supplier
– #ROTD-EN030

If a face-up Rock monster you control is sent to the GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is Special Summoned: You can add from your Deck to your hand, 1 “Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru” or 1 card that specifically lists “Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru” in its text, except “Koa’ki Meiru Supplier”. You can only use each effect of “Koa’ki Meiru Supplier” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Rise of The Duelist gave us something we haven’t had in a long while: Koa’ki Meiru support.

Koa’ki Meiru Supplier being an EARTH as well as a Rock-Type lends it some good support outside the archetype. The most important thing Supplier does is supply you the card the deck revolves around: Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru. With several Rock-Type monsters in the archetype, Special Summoning Supplier shouldn’t be hard. You can also search a card that lists Iron Core on it, which gives you almost the entire archetype to work with for searching, a good 1-for-1 for the archetype. You don’t need to wait for the opponent to send a Rock monster you have to the grave, you Xyz or Link it away and Special Summon Supplier. As a Rock-Type, Supplier can help the more dedicated “Rock-Stun” style utilizes the tribute to negate effects several of the Rock Koa’ki monsters have, as well as the searching ability Gallant Granite has as a Rank 4, which most of the Koa’ki monsters are.

Good archetype searcher that was needed when the archetype was released…something said too many times before for too many archetypes.

I always liked the Koa’ki Meiru archetype and always hoped for more support outside the Rock Stun variant and while this card seems designed to help Rock Decks that run Koa’ki Meiru monsters at times, see Adamancipator, you can at least use this in a Koa’ki Meiru Deck: Koa’ki Meiru Supplier.

Supplier is a Level 4 EARTH Rock with 1400 ATK and 1600 DEF. EARTH and Rock go together well and the stats overall are just okay, nothing great. If a face-up Rock monster you control is sent to the graveyard, bar the Damage Step of course, you can Special Summon this from the hand. A free body to make up for whatever you lost is nice, or this could be an extender considering you can just send the Rock away with a Synchro or Link Summon to Special Summon this or tribute the Koa’ki Meiru Rocks with their effects, so there’s good synergy here with Rock themes. If Special Summoned, you can search for an Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru or any card that lists the Iron Core in its text from Deck to hand. This triggering itself is good, though I do wish you could just Normal Summon this and get the search. The Iron Core keeps the Koa’ki Meiru Deck afloat in theory, though I wish it could search the Diamond Core instead. You should easily trigger this either way with Rocks to get to the Koa’ki Meiru that negates what you need or use Urknight in Koa’ki Meiru to search for the entire monster line-up basically and most of the Spell and Trap line-up, since you likely have the Core if you’re resolving Urknight. You can’t search another Supplier, which is what it is I guess and each effect is a hard once per turn as we’re used to. It’s fine support to use in a Rock Deck that would make use of the Koa’ki Meiru Rocks, especially Rock Stun, and it works in Koa’ki Meiru itself at least thanks to Urknight, just wish Koa’kis got more support.

Art: 4/5 It’s different from the other Rock-type Koa’kis and it’s for the better, even if it looks like a Machine.

Kicking things off this week is Koa’ki Meiru Supplier.  Level 4 and Earth, as you’d expect to see on a Rock type, with fair stats at 1400-1600 respectfully.  Could be better but certainly could be worse.  So this card tandems very well with Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru; a Magic card.  A face-up Monster you control going to the Graveyard (save the Damage Step) lets you Special Summon this card from your Hand.  That’s a nice, honest, 1-for-1 trade, and there’s nothing not to like about that.

This card being Special Summoned, and not just by its own effect, only making things better, lets you add an Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru from your Deck to your Hand, OR add a card specifically listing said card.  Iron Core is one of the focal pieces to help you make your plays and setup or start your combos for this Deck, so being able to access it more quickly is certainly a plus.  This is a nice case of this card doing a job, and the job it does, it does well enough.

Nothing here is overpowered, the stats are good enough to not make this card junk, while not being good enough to be much of an attacker or a defender.  I’m not sure I’d use more than one though.  Decent card here to open the week.

Art:  4/5  The colors on the Supplier are really cool.  Visually I’m enjoying this, but it’s a bit of a mess.
