Hello Pojo Fans,

Jinzo is our Throwback Thursday choice and remains a pretty good monster.

While you don’t see it in the meta really anymore, Jinzo could still be a good monster for Side or Main Deck use. Negation of all traps on the field and locking down any trap from being used will put the pressure on your opponent. Infinite Impermanence is the most popular trap in the game arguably and with its ability to be played from the hand makes Jinzo even better in working against it. Traps aren’t in abundance as much as they used to be, but certain archetypes depend on certain traps and Jinzo can make it rough going for them.

A simple, easy boss monster to use. Was amazing back then, still holds power years upon years later.

Throwback Thursday was probably obvious this week, but here’s Jinzo.

Jinzo is a Level 6 DARK Machine with 2400 ATK and 1500 DEF. Pretty good stats on Level 6, and you got a nice combo of DARK and Machine still. Jinzo prevents Trap Cards and their effects from being activated on field and all Trap effects on field are negated. So it’s really only good against Traps sadly, and those have fallen out of favor somewhat over the years. Konami has made up for that by releasing some strong Traps in return, but even then some Decks are giving up Traps to go for combo cards to make their plays. Jinzo doesn’t stop every Deck in that case, but it does stop Trap-centric Decks like Altergeist and Eldlich I guess. That and you got support behind this now to help get to it. It does negate your Traps as well, but you’re playing a Jinzo Deck with this likely, so you probably don’t use many Traps to begin with. It’s a classic card that was a staple for many Decks back in the day and now it makes good with its own strategy and can be a side card from time to time still.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5

Art: 5/5 for the old art and 4/5 for the Anniversary Pack art, I’m a sucker for these classic artworks. Simple yet effective.

Jinzo has been reviewed EIGHT times in the 18+ years this site has been running Yugioh CotD.  I’ve reviewed Jinzo 4 of the 8 times (twice was before I was on the team, one I was at basic training, and I just happened to miss the most recent one in 2017).  Jinzo was a card, and still to a degree continues to be, a card that depends on the Format.  Traps aren’t what they use to be, and there aren’t a LOT of Trap heavy or Themed Decks at the moment.  But Jinzo is still a one tribute 2400 attacker.  Dark is always in favor, and Machine has an unhealthy amount of support these days.  He might not be as effective these days as he use to be, but he’s still solid for what he does to and against Traps.  Jinzo may work best in its own constructed build or any various Machine hybrids, but he can be a fine piece in your Deck if you so choose.

Rating:  3.5/5

Art:  5/5 always, one of the coolest Machines we’ve ever had IMO
