Captain Boomerang

Today we'll be reviewing Captain Boomerang from Collateral Damage

In reality this is the son of the real Captain Boomerang.  After the real Boomerang is killed, Owen decided to take up his father’s mantle.  The mantle of being a fairly forgettable villain with a dumb super power.

Unique:  72 points, Calculators Team

MOVEMENT:  Running Shot is always good and that one sweet click of Hyper Sonic Speed makes you wish you would actually get lucky enough to land on that click…but you probably never will.

ATTACK:  This is clearly his biggest weakness.  9 is low for the points and 8 on a second click is ridiculous.  Two targets with a long range and Energy Explosion can really come in handy.

DEFENSE:  Super Senses is better then you may think on a wildcard.  If you combine him with the Fantastic Four Team, you have a very hard to hit character.  Willpower with a 7 attack will only help him run to the medic

DAMAGE:  3 is expected, but two on the second click is really disappointing.

SCULPT:  These get better and better.  Although this really brings out how bad of an idea wearing a long scarf in battle is.

Feats:  Incontact will help balance out his low attack or defense.  Protected will keep him alive if Super Senses doesn’t hit.  Putting anything else on him will just make him too many points.

OVERALL:

*       Average Damage, Average Attack, Low Defense

*       Double Targets with no reason not to use them will make both his Energy Explosion and low attack work better

*       Never underestimate the power or a Wildcard

*       Never underestimate the power of Disbanded, Saboteur or Isolation

*       His defense never gets really low enough to easily heal.

Captain Boomerang as a Heroclix lives up to what he does in the comics and that is be average.  You can use and abuse his wildcardness and he can get pretty darn good.  If you use Sue Storm, a Batman Ally and Veteran Joker, Captian Boomerag could be a 11 attack, 19 defense with Super Senses Stealthed monster…but so could a lot of wildcards.  He’s fun to play, but overall he’s just not competitive enough to do any real damage.

But what did you expect…he’s really good at throwing boomerangs.  Actually he’s the son of the guy that is really good at throwing Boomerangs.

SHE RECEIVES 2 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5 THUMBS UP!
