Name: Magog
Set: Unleashed
Number: 96
Rarities: Unique 6
Costs: 209
Health: 12
SSADD:10/13/16/5
Powers: Charge, Super Strength, Quake, Impervious, Invulnerability, Toughness, Exploit Weakness, RCE, Battle Fury
Ranged Attacks: 1 Range 8
Team: Kingdom Come
Arch Enemy: Kingdom Come Superman

Magog was the big bad villain in Kingdom Come…well, he wasn’t the ultimate villain, as often is the case, he was the initial villain until the real baddie (Captain Marvel) was revealed. Or something like that, I don’t actually remember. All I do remember is that he gave Superman a run for his money, and he had absolutely no morals whatsoever.

Let’s look at the figure though shall we? Beautiful sculpt, that’s for sure, does the figure live up to it? Oh heck yeah. FIVE Damage and Exploit Weakness? Are you kidding me? That can get perplexed up real easy can’t it, and the damage cannot be reduced. Can you say one hit KO? I’ll bet a nasty new strategy will be for Magog to take out medics in one shot, and just decimate the rest of the team with the other of the two new powers he has, Quake, which deals 2 damage and knockback to every adjacent character. So basically if your opponent bases Magog to counter the RCE that he gets in the middle of his dial (pushing his damage with that ranged attack up to 6 for one click), use Quake to knock back AND deal damage, and then continue to snipe at your heart’s content.

The problem with Magog is that he’s freakin’ expensive. 209 points will wipe out over 2/3rds of your point total in a 300 point game, leaving you with not a whole lot of wiggle room for support. Nice thing though, Magog doesn’t really need a whole lot of support. A paramedic or two, and a couple Outwitters/Perplexers and you’ve got a tournament team bar none.

Online sales of this truly bad boy are running in the $30-50 range right now. I almost expect that to go a tad higher once the release is nation-wide, simply because he’s one of only two Kingdom Come Villains, and the only one available in boosters (the Captain Marvel LE is a mail-away from Wizard, which reminds me, I need to mail mine in).

My Ratings:
Playability 5 of 5
Collectability 5 of 5

YUP he’s another 5 star figure. Which gives me an idea for a contest. I have an extra Mail Away form for the Captain Marvel LE up for grabs (you have to mail in the official form which you get in one of Wizard’s magazines). I’ll mail it to the person who tells me all of the 5 Star Figures that I’ve reviewed. This contest will run one week starting the day this is posted (which I assume is going to be Tuesday, March 30). In case of more than one correct response, I’ll place all the names in a hat and choose one.

Contest Rules:
1. This contest is open to residents of the United States only.
2. This contest is sponsored by ME and only me.
3. The decision of the judge (me) is final.
4. The prize is one (1) Order Form for the Captain Marvel DC Unleashed LE Figure. It does not include the cost of ordering the figure, or the figure itself, it’s just for the little piece of paper that you can send away for the figure. But hey, it’ll save you six bucks if you don’t already have the issues of Wizard or Inquest.
5. To submit your entry, email me at wmnoe@yahoo.com with the names of the COTD figures that I’ve given 5s to for both Playability and Collectability. That’s a 5 Star Figure in my book.
6. The contest shall begin on March 30, 2004 and end on April 6, 2004. All correct entries will have an equal chance of winning. There is no second prize.
7. I take no responsibility for lost or misplaced mail.
8. There is no number 8.
9. Here’s a hint, the correct answer cannot be given until later this week. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Havokclix Magog

Magog is the “hero” that killed Joker after Joker
murdered Lois Lane. Magog was acquitted of murder,
which drove Superman away from civilization. He also
led to the destruction of Captain Atom in Kansas,
turning Kansas into a desert, which brings Superman
back.

Magog is the best TK/charge brick ever made. He can
get TKed out, pick up an object while he charges, and
not even use it, just use his exploit weakness, saving
the object for after he takes a few. Of course, that
16DV with impervious should make that a fairly arduous
task for your opponent. As with Wonder Woman, he
sports a 13 attack, but he keeps it for 3 clicks! His
super strength gives way to quake, which is force
blast on steroids, and then to super strength again.
His damage starts at 5 and never drops below 3, going
from EW to RCE and ending with BF. After 4 clicks of
10 movement with charge, his movement goes white.
Definitely the best lasting power of any TK/charge
brick.

Magog:

Brutally good comes to mind. I really can't decide who is stronger, Magog or Superman. Let me put it to you this way: when a charater starts with 13 attack, never drops below 11 and has only ONE CLICK of ko, that means he is good. Add in 4 clicks of Charge with a 10 movement, 3 of Super Strength, then 4 Quake and four more SS, 2 Impervious, 3 Invunrability, then the rest toughness, three clicks of exploit weakness with a 5, 4, 4 damage value, then four ranged combat expert with a 4, 3, 3, 3 damage value, then settiling on 3 the rest of the way, oh lord have mercy on us. Magog can take on anybody. This guy has the most brutal and consistant attack value in the game. Thanos shutters. Hellboy runs the other way. Firelord gets mad that someone can do more damage with RCE than he can. The only charater I know of that can really stand toe-to-toe with this monster is Supenman. I mean really, we though Doomsday was Supe's greatest foe? This guy could take TWO doomsdays!

200- Well, his power comes at a price, and unfortunatlly that puts him 9 points over the legal limit. N/A

300+ Awesome, even in 300. 400 or more and you may be instoppable. 4/5

Sealed Booster: Play him. Do it, don't ask questions. Unless on of your opponets pulls on of the other KC figs (aside from the Bat Sentry) you'll cruise to victory. 5/5

The Bottom Line: 4.5/5

Arch Enemy: Superman

Charge (4 clix); Super Strenth (7 clix); Quake (4 clix); Impervious (2 clix); Invulnerability (3 clix); Toughness (6 clix); Exploit Weakness (3 clix); Ranged Combat Expert (4 clix); Battle Fury (4 clix)

Ok, I’ll try and keep this short and sweet.

First…. Charge + Super Strength w/13 attack + 5 damage w/Exploit Weakness = Monster. Plain and simple. I mean, he is just amazing. His attack lingers at 13 for 3 clicks, then drops to 12 for another 4 and “levels off” at 11 for the last 4 clicks. That is just plain ridiculous. No figure has attack values like that, not even KC Supes. If you manage to damage this beast down to his 12 attack value, he picks up RCE and Quake. So if he was based before hand, then his Quake can knock people away to be crushed by his RCE. His Battle Fury at the end makes him unable to use his 8 range and unable to be carried back, but he gets his Super Strength back (if he got Charge back, he’d be too broken). The only possible downsides to this fig are his low defense values at the end and his inability to fly. But for 209 points, he’s fantastic.

Ratings:
100 points: NA
200 points: NA

300 points: 5 out of 5 (He’s 2/3 of your team, but a monster none the less, and of course KC + sealed = Victory)
400+ points: 5 out of 5 (Just amazing)

Monger Magog Unique
DC Unleashed #096

I only have a few things to say about this figure before I start my review. Pick him up if you can – he is destined to be a very popular and expensive figure in the “Unleashed” set.

Speed: Magog starts off with a ten speed and charge for four straight clicks! He then looses his charge ability and drops down to a nine. He retains a high speed value all the way to his death and will be a board threat for an entire game.

Attack: WOW, this figures attack values are insane. They begin at an outstanding three clicks of thirteen, 4 clicks of twelve and only fall to an eleven for the last four clicks before his one KO slot. His thirteen and eleven attacks are coupled with super strength and allow this figure to pick up objects as he moves around the map. His twelve attacks are combined with quake (a new ability) and make your opponents pay for grouping their forces in a cluster.

Defense: Not very high defensive numbers but he does offer two clicks of impervious to begin the game. If your opponents are even able to deal damage to Magog, he falls all the way to a twelve defense on his last click, but not before traveling through invulnerability and toughness on the way.

Damage: By far the best part of this figure and that says a lot! Begins the game with a five damage combined with exploit weakness. He is able to bash any figure on the board for five clicks, regardless of their defensive ability. Pick up an object and Magog is capable of dealing 7-8 clicks of damage. After three clicks, Magog gains an ability that is just as good, if not better – ranged combat expert. Magog is now a ranged combat threat, dealing an amazing six clicks of damage from his eight range (that’s even better then Firelord). On Magogs’ eighth click, he finally comes back down to earth and only offers three clicks damage. Only three clicks…that’s still enough to KO in late game situations with ease.

Overall: This guy is a house. Not just a house, but a brick house with a steel skeleton. If you have the chance to pick this figure up, DO IT! I have a feeling this guy will be very valuable and will see his way in some 400+ pt. constructed teams. If you pull this figure in a draft – do a little dance and stick your tongue out at your opponents, chances are your going to
