Peeves is a Ghost of Hogwarts, who goes out of his way to annoy the students and teachers there. The Caretaker Filch is always trying to get him thrown out for the things he does. Peeves loves the site of chaos, and he is usually the one who starts it. In the Chamber of Secrets, Peeves always sang this song when Harry was around:

"Oh Potter, you rotter, oh what have you done,
You're killing off students, you think its good fun."

He finally stopped after it got boring, and went back to his habbit of annoying Filch. No-one knows how he died.
