Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight
– #ETCO-EN024

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 “Orcust” or “World Legacy” card from your Deck to the GY, then, if there are 2 or more other cards in this card’s column, treat this card as a Tuner this turn. If you control no other monsters: You can Special Summon 1 “World Legacy Token” (Machine/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) to both players’ fields in Defense Position. You can only use each effect of “Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight starts off the last week of July here on Pojo.

Orcust or World Legacy Armageddon Knight, though a wider reaching one, and better as it can also activate upon Special Summon. Going first makes the next effect useless, but going second you can easily line this up in a column and make Girsu a Tuner. Either turn if Girsu is your first monster on the field you get an instant Rank 2 or Level 5 Synchro if you make him a Tuner. The Armageddon Knight effect is why you play him though. Thinning the deck is good enough, but Girsu can be your combo starter on either turn. As a Tuner you can go for Halqifibrax off the token and Girsu, getting you to an authentic Tuner from your deck and then into a Synchro Tuner. Crescendo and Babel are top candidates to be sent to the grave if you’re not targeting monsters, Knightmare stands as the best monster in the Orcust archetype to send to the grave, which in turn will get a World Legacy into the grave. With Harp Horror not banned Girsu could take its place in any deck that plays any kind of combo of Orcust and World Legacy cards.

Now we look at more support cards in ETCO, only this time these cards are more designed for certain archetypes and we start with a new Orcust and Mekk-Knight card: Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight.

Girsu is a Level 4 DARK Machine with 1800 ATK and 0 DEF. Good ATK stat on Level 4, a good Type and Attribute as well. Upon this card’s Normal or Special Summon, you can send an Orcust or World Legacy card from Deck to grave, then you can make this card a Tuner for the turn if there were 2 or more other cards in this card’s column. The first effect really helps Orcust by sending your Cymbal Skeleton or Brass Bombard directly to grave for some summons, World Legacy – “World Wand” to get your banished Orcust cards, Orcust Knightmare to send more DARK Machines like Orcusts or Gizmek Orochi, or send World Legacy – “World Armor” to later try and revive off World Legacy’s Succession for a set of a World Legacy card from Deck. The Tuner part helps Orcust get access to Crystron Halqifibrax without relying only on Brass Bombard, which is something I’m sure we all wanted Orcust to get access to. Obvious synergy there with Mekk-Knights as well, especially with that dump effect for World Legacy cards. The second effect is that if you control no other monsters, you can Special Summon a World Legacy Token (Machine/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) to both player’s fields. Sure you give the opponent Link Material, but you now get another Link Material for something like Lib or Halqifibrax if you made this a Tuner, which should certainly help you make more plays in the Deck. Each effect is a hard once per turn, since it already enables a lot with the effects it has. It’s such a good card for an already strong archetype, even without Harp Horror in the format anymore. Orcust loved Scrap Recycler, so they’ll love one they can use with the archetypal monsters.

Girus, the Orcust Mekk-Knight kicks this week off.  Level 4, Dark/Machine, good 1800 attack (miserable 0 defense).  This card has a couple nifty effects, but I’m not sure how good that actually means this card may be.
When Normal or Special Summoned, you can send an Orcust or World Legacy card from your Deck to your Graveyard.  This card becomes a Tuner, which is cool, but only if there are 2 other cards in this cards column.
Granted you should ideally only Summon this card when you have that set up to get this effect, but it seems overly complicated just to make a non-Tuner become a Tuner when you could use one to start.
If this is the only Minster you control, you Special Summon a Token to each side of the Field.  Not a huge deal, but I’m never a fan of free things for your opponent.  It opens up Extra Deck (likely Link) plays for both players.

Or Tributing for a cost, whatever have you at the time, and destroying the opponent’s Token before they use it is certainly doable.  Still, I’m not sold on the usefulness here.   Too much detail and not enough payoff.

Art:  5/5  Amazing picture here to start the week.  Though I do enjoy the cosmic background here more than the Monster (while it looks cool too).
