Shifting once again from the Extra Deck, now to the XYZ side of things, is Gallant Granite.  This is an Earth, Rock, Rank 4 XYZ Monster, who requires any two generic Level 4 (oddly no Rock requirement) Monsters for an XYZ Summon.  2300 attack isn’t terrible for a Rank 4 (and honestly neither is the 1800 defense) I feel these fall pretty middle of the range.

So, two effects attached, each which requires the discard of an XYZ Material, and you can use one of, once per turn.

*Add a Rock Monster from your Deck to your Hand.  A fair, honest effect.  You lose a Material but gain the Monster of your choice immediately from your Deck.  Definitely worth a trade, and while not an (immediate) advantage, it’s a good thing to have in a theme.

*Special Summon a Rock Monster from your Deck in face-down Defense position.  I like this too.  This is just as fair and honest as the first effect.  Rock Monsters like their Flip effects, so being able to Set the Monster is an asset to the player.  Nice to throw a Monster out to defend at the very least.

He can hold his own in Battle, he gives you a resource to your Hand and/or the Field, it’s a solid card no doubt for the Rock theme.

Art:  5/5  THIS I like…the body is absolutely Granite, as advertised.  I enjoy he’s a warrior, and the swords displayed here.  The bright aura, as well as the fading background from light to dark, magnificent.

Cause if the Rank 4 toolbox wasn’t already good enough for having a generic Reptile searcher, they now got a similar card to King of the Feral Imps in Gallant Granite.

Galant Granite is a Rank 4 EARTH Rock Xyz with 2300 ATK and 1800 DEF. Fairly solid stats all around for a Rank 4, being EARTH is nice and Konami has been very generous to Rocks recently. The summoning requirements are any 2 Level 4 monsters, so throw this into literally any Deck where you might be using an important Rock monster, if not a pure Rock-based Deck like Koa’ki Meiru Rock Stun. It has a hard once per turn where you can detach a material from this card to activate the effect to either search for any Rock monster in your Deck or Special Summon a Rock in face-down Defense Position. There’s a ton of good Rocks in this game to search like Nibiru, the Rock Koa’ki Meirus, the new Adamatia archetype, Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, Doki Doki, Block Dragon, and Fossil Dyna just to name a few. You can also use that second effect quite nicely with a few Pot or Jar monsters like either of the Morphing Jars or Pot of the Forbidden or the previously mentioned Fossil Dyna. It’s a fairly good piece of generic Rock support that any Rock Deck that can feasibly summon Rank 4s should consider running, and even Decks that use a lot of Level 4s but only have a few good, but important, Rock monsters in the Deck can use it similar to how they sometimes use King of the Feral Imps.

Art: 4/5 Very nice statue-like card. Very fitting of being a Rock.
