The Philosopher's Stone:

The Philosopher's Stone is the oldest and, in my opinion, best stone in the game. It easily has the most potent ability of any of the pump stones, and it has the best cost for early game play. It will stay around longer, actually be used, and generally just be good. There's very little bad to say about the Philosopher's Stone.

Limited is interesting. Assuming you are only playing in a format that allows a mere one set (yes, I really don't think that many people play limited outside of Quick Alchemy and Prereleases these days), there are no Stone events, just a minor pump. However, minor pumps are decent, and can really add up in limited. So I'd probably play it just because it'll always stick around and be helpful.

Battle Alchemy: This character gets +1 to any attribute.

Stone week goes on! This is my double stone in my HHH deck, simple cost to pay of 3, and dandy effect. A quick boost to any attribute can make or break a battle, it can tie you or even put you ahead in some cases. The ability to pay for up to three stone attribute cost events is nice, 3 uses of Pro Father's ability is a good thing. The only real advantage here is the amount of events you can play off it. Red Stone's ability is virtually dead after the first use as the next will burn it w/o a stone cleaner. Anyway theres not a whole lot to say about the stones themselves but its ok.

Constructed: 4/5 Easy to play and a so-so effect
Sealed: 4/5 Harder to play but potent effect.

Here are once again with Stone week here at Pojo's FMA site. Let's take a look at card number two, a stone event from Seven Deadly Sins, the card that started it all... "The Philosopher's Stone".

3 Point Stone Event

Battle Alchemy: Target character gets +1 to any attribute.

Ok for an advantage like effect... This card is not too bad. 3 Point card, and has an activated ability to give ANY character a +1 to any attribute. The stone will give you three points for you to use on abilities... AND you get a cheap pump out of it as well. Not too bad still.

Let's take a look at the numbers.

Constructed: 4/5. Keep Momentum and other bonus generating effects handy.

Limited: 3.5/5. If you can get three points, use this card... If you don't think you can get three points... and this card is looking directly at you from the pack... PULL it and save it for later. Don't let this one go by.

*Philosopher's Stone

*The original stone card, from back when we didn't know what the heck they were good for. This one is essentially one level up from Red Tincture and Arguably one level down from Bright Jewel. I like the fact that it's a versatile, if small, all around battle pump...I may even like it more than Jewel because A) It's cheaper, B) You can give the attribute to anyone, and C) You can still play 3-cost stone events. I can see this one being used in stone decks, though in my eyes Right Arm of Judgment will be used more because of it's searching ability. This is probably the most middle of the road stone you'll find so far, a very decent choice to use your 3 and below cost stone events on.

Constructed 3.5/5: Good enough for the pump and its moderate cheapness, but no deck searching ability Sealed 4/5: It's nice for sealed because the pump could become invaluable in a tight spot, event if you don't have stone events to go along with it.*

Today we take a look at The Philosopher's Stone stone. As a side note shouldn't playing this card win you the game since the point of the game is to get enough clues to find the Philopher's Stone? In any case, this is probably one of my favorite stones. At 3 points it's not too difficult to bring out. It's got a decent +1 to anything pump which many opponents usually tend to forget about and it's got enough points to be versatile enough to play 3 1 point events, a 2 cost and a 1 cost or a 3 cost event. All in all a great stone to use if you decide to go down the path of Stone decks.

Constructed: 3/5-Still not entirely sold on stones, but this is good as far as they go.
Sealed:4/5-A free +1 pump is always nice in sealed.
