Roy Mustang, Seeking Revenge:

Roy Mustang seems to have a formulaic system for determining when he gets a new Elric ally. Every three sets so far (Premier, A Hero's Passing, and now Sacrifice) has given him a new one, and they seem to increase in playability- and picture quality- each time.

Seeking Revenge has one of my favorite mechanics in the game slapped on him- toughness. Admittedly, Toughness: 1 isn't incredible, but it's certainly nothing to sneeze at either. Being able to win ties is great, and Toughness can't be eliminated by Exhaustion, making it very strong in battles. Elric has been lacking in 6 costs lately (at least in comparison to amazing 5 costs like Alphonse Elric, Hiding Place), so Roy has some serious potential in that slot. Additionally, I think most Elric decks should be running Maes Hughes, Mentor, since there will inevitably be a ton of Homunculus decks with Fight on My Terms on those last locations. Having a Maes in your discard pile really isn't that difficult to do, and a turn 1 5-6-6 with Toughness: 1 is pretty great.

In limited, Roy loses some power because of the unlikeliness of Maes actually being in your discard pile, but he still has toughness and alchemy, so it doesn't make sense to ignore him.

The last card we are looking at this week is Roy Mustang, Seeking Revenge. With a somewhat limited supply of Elric faction Roy Mustang's, most people have been playing Daring Gambler if only for the alchemy stats. Seeking Revenge is a good alternative if you don't have access to an 8 command level 2, or if you need more level 1 drops. This ally has no ability so to speak of and is purely just stats. At 3/4/4 and Toughness: 1 he's a solid turn one or two recruit. He's also a Hero which Banding Together and A Hero's Passing likes.

I say he has no ability to speak of since the one he has just pumps up his stats, but it does require something you may not see too much in an Elric deck and that is a Maes Hughes ally. True it does hurt to have non-alchemist allies in an Elric deck and even more so since the majority of Hughes are all military faction. Luckily, Hughes, Mentor fills in this gap quite well. Is it worth putting Hughes in just to pump up this Roy? Depending on your meta it may help quite a bit, if you find a lot of Homonculus decks in your area, Hughes, Mentor can only help. Don't forget, Hughes can also easily find his way into discard by simple Equivalent Exchange.

Constructed: 4/5-A little bit too dependant on getting Hughes into your discard, but for 6 cost it's definitely worth it.
