Imperial

Maes Hughes, Lieutenant Colonel

Being the only 8 command Hughes, he could have no ability and still be the best. But he does have an ability, and its pretty useful. A good counter to Yoki, Coward and even the new Terror card, his ability is a built in Automotive. Its also fun at times where your party members are limited, like Catch the Train or Wine Fountain. Mobilization may be better, but you can only have three a deck and can't guarentee the draw. This being the level 2 (the level where the game happens), you'll be at him alot, and won't need to draw Automotive or Mobilization. His 4/5/0 or 5/6/0 with Hakuro is decent for a 8 command.

Limited: 2/5
If your playing random Premier sealed, Proud Father is better since hes huge.
Constructed: 5/5
If your playing Hughes, you need this. It has 8 command, thats all I really need to say.
Picture: 4/5
A cool up-close of Hughes. Don't have many others like that.

Darktaro

Let’s look at another old favorite, Maes Hughes, Lieutenant Colonel. Will this Premier leader also stand up to the test of time? Let’s examine it. There aren’t many choices when it comes to level 2 Hughes leaders so far there are only 3 out. This has the unique distinction of being the only 8 command leader as well. That alone makes it a great card because it gives you access to all the military beatsticks such as Vato, Warrant Officer, King Bradley, Always on Duty, and Edward Elric, Hero of the People.

The card does fall a little short in the stats department, being only a 4/5/0. Its effect also doesn’t have the same impact that it used to back in Premier. It is basically a built-in Automotive, but military has access to so many more move-in events and abilities to make it a bit obsolete. Although it still has some uses with Catch the Train or bringing your Hakuro into the party for the goal after your opponent has attacked with their characters.

Pros:
-Military likes 8 command
-Effect can help with Catch the Train or with the location goal

Cons:
-Relatively low stats

Sealed:4/5-8 Command in sealed are always great
Constructed:4/5-Unless you are going with a Hero deck, this is the Hughes level 2 to use.

MILLER

Maes Hughes is the loveable family man of the Fullmetal Alchemist anime and TCG. He is a hero in every sense of the word. He puts himself last all the time, even in his death he was heroic.

Lieutenant Colonel is the only 8 command version of Maes Hughes. This alone makes him the best option for level 2. Other than that, this is a really boring leader. His effect is sub-par, his stats are not good. You may ask yourself, why is this leader good then? To which I would tell you, Maes Hughes level 3s are ridiculous, he has two of the best level 3s in the game. Senior Investigator has the ability to redirect abilities and events, while Hero of the Day has Stealth and "Deeds, Not Words!" built in. So clearly this is the best stepping stone to those leaders.

In sealed, he's good because, again, he's 8 command. In sealed, he is pretty much the only viable option for Maes Hughes.

Sealed 5/5: He is 8 command, nuff said.
Constructed 5/5: Only 8 command Hughes, nuff said.
