MILLER

Roy Mustang is a very central character to the plot of the Fullmetal Alchemist Anime. First of all, he is the one who generally presides over all the actions of Edward Elric and is, in general, his "commanding" officer.

This Roy Mustang ally is the only cheap ally of Roy Mustang that I don't see any use for. First of all, his effect is Battle Alchemy 6, which requires 2 more alchemy than his base alchemy. Secondly, it changes the battle to a battle of strength, and how many people can you take out with 4 strength, the list simply consists of those allies who have larger alchemy. The effect is one of the worse ones in the game. His attribute to cost ratio is great however, 6 cost to 12 total attributes is a great 1:2 ratio, which while ideal, is not easy to come by.

In sealed, while only being available in sealed as a sig card in SDS, he is better than normal, as he is a turn one drop for military. His effect is also a little stronger there, since there are few things that change battles in that format. In constructed, he is straight up bad.

Sealed 4/5: Great here.
Constructed 1/5: Terrible here.

Charstar

Hello all! Sorry for my absence! But, I am back, with another card of the day for YOU! And, this week is Imperial's Welcome week, and we kick it off with Roy Mustang, State Alchemist.

Roy Mustang, State Alchemist
6-cost Military Ally
Human - Soldier - State Alchemist
4/4/4
Battle Alchemy 6: Change this battle to a battle of Strength.

Now, the idea of having a test of might built in to a military ally sounds ideal, but when you realize the ability costs 2 more alchemy than this SA has, you quickly notice that there are much better Roy Mustang cards out there.

However, if you are playing a triple threat military deck, and you have the capacity to splash a Lyra's Pendant or something similar on a bigger ally, then by all means, this Roy Mustang is decent. Actually, come to think of it, he'd make a decent ally in a Basque Grand deck...

Anyway, there are better Roy Mustang cards out there.
This one is just mildly amusing.

Constructed: 2/5
Sealed: N/A

Today we’re looking at one of the very first promos for the game, Roy Mustang, State Alchemist. Does this card stand up to the test of time? Let’s take a look.

Being a 4/4/4 for a 6 cost are pretty decent stats. You’ll get the same stats for ALA, Strong and Beautiful, but you can drop Roy 1st turn with 6 command leader. His ability is basically a built in Test of Might that only affects his battles, which can come in useful against alchemy and some wits decks. Its biggest weakness however is in the cost of this ability. As most military decks aren’t going to be focusing on alchemy getting that 2 extra alchemy can be hard to come by and pitching two cards every time you want to use his effect can be very costly.

Since the release of this card there are better Roy cards to use, Haunted Past is a great 5 cost for non-villain leaders with a built-in pump and Sarcastic is a great 5 cost with an amazing effect. Unfortunately, I don’t think State Alchemist stands the test of time.

Pros:
-Good stats for the cost
-Ability can disrupt many decks

Cons:
-Cost of ability is too expensive

Constructed:2/5-Not a horrible Roy, but there are much better options out there today.
