Haven

Edward Elric, Self Righteous

Elric
7 Cost
Human—State Alchemist—Hero
4 / 4 / 5

Edward Elric gets +2 to each attribute when opposing a villain character in battle.

Main Wits: Discard a card: Target character gains the "villain" keyword until end of turn.

So this guy gets beefy when he's matched up against villains. His effect can turn any character into a villain, and it doesn't use a search phase.

Like all hate effects, this card is situational. This card is great given a villain match-up, but vs. any other deck he's pathetic. You would think his second effect would save him, but it doesn't. I don't care if the "top decks" are villain based. Enraged is better than this in terms of power, and Researcher is still king of the Eds.

Rating: 2.5/5 (Villain Hate)

MILLER

Edward Elric is the main protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist story. He is a heroic, brave, and caring person and he is only in his early teens. This card represents his extra effort to take down the bad guys.

Self Righteous is one of the more useable Edward allies, his most useable being Researcher. Self Righteous works especially well in an Alphonse Elric leader deck, as Al's level 3 gets +2 to each attribute while opposing villains, and Ed can make characters villains. Despite the fact that Researcher is SO good, I can actually see this character being used over him in a lot of cases. A battle oriented Elric deck is not far from fruition, Alphonse and Marcoh can hold their own in battle already, this Ed can help towards them fighting.

In sealed, its almost impossible to pull him, but he would be excellent there. In constructed, he isn't as good on the whole as Researcher, but he IS good.

Sealed 5/5: Great for fighting.
Constructed 4/5: No researcher, but still very, very good.

Darktaro

Today we look at Edward Elric, Self-Righteous a card that is currently only available in certain Joyride hosted tournaments. The first question that would come to most people’s minds is why should I play this card over Researcher? Well this version of Ed is one you would want to use if you feel you need more kung-fu in your deck.

At 4/4/5 it puts it slightly lower stats than Enraged from Alchemist Gate for the same cost but it has the potential to be stronger than Enraged as well. By discarding a card you can name one card to be a villain and Ed gets a passive +2 bonus to each stat while fighting that character. This makes him a great candidate for Alchemist Duel and even Challenge the Sun. This card would fit great into an Alphonse Elric deck when using his Level 3 Honest and Honorable to ensure Alphonse will always get the bonus. It’s also a great turn 1 drop with Izumi, Teacher.

Bottom line, if your deck needs more attacking options this is a great ally to fill that gap. No sealed rating since the card is not available in any set so far.

Pros:
-Possible 6/6/7 for only a 7 cost drop
-Great support for Alphonse, Honest and Honorable and Izumi, Teacher

Cons:
-Doesn’t cancel cards like Researcher
-Discarding a card every turn can deplete your hand size quickly

Constructed:4/5-A solid beatsticky Ed ally
