The Frost Alchemist

Alex Louis Armstrong, Overbearing Bodyguard

7 Cost--Elric Faction

Human*Soldier*State Alchemist*Hero

4 Strength--4 Wits--5 Alchemy

"When Alex Louis Armstrong is paying for an event or ability, cards discarded for Equivalent Exchange reduce the attribute cost by 2 instead of 1.

Battle Alchemy 9: Alex Louis Armstrong gets +2 strength."

The Rundown: Another ALA ally! However, this ALA is for Elric Faction.
Armstrong's alchemy for this ally is a little better than most of his other versions out there, and matches alchemy with his 9 cost counterpart. And his first ability isn't too shabby. Normally, if you wanted to play Change in Plans or Sensei's Shadow, you would have to rely on a high Alchemy character or discard 1 or more cards in order to use the event. But this Armstrong takes care of that problem. You only have to discard 1 card for EE in order to play the events. It's also a handy ability to have since his other ability costs 9 Alchemy to use and he only has 5.

The Downside: Where do I start? How about I start with the fact that his other ability requires 9 Alchemy to use? Which means you have to have Lyra's Pendent in play and have Armstrong equipped with Alchemist's Gloves or State Alchemist's Watch, or you have to discard 2 cards. In addition, he is a Hero. So, if you wanted to play him in a non-Hero deck for whatever reason, that's a no go.

Final Word: Well, it's not the worst Armstrong ally. If you're playing Elric, this ally isn't too bad if you want to run in-faction. Otherwise, you might just want to go ahead and pay the faction penalty for Strong and Beautiful for a much more useful effect. Don't get me wrong, this Armstrong's effect does have its uses. I just find being able to cancel a Battle Event or Ability a little more useful. Because your leader will eventually have the stats to pay for almost any Event you would need to EE for. This Armostrong ally would be a bit better if his effect counted for attachments too.

I give Alex Louis Armstrong, Overbearing Bodyguard a 3 out of 5.

When Alex Armstrong is used for paying for an event or ability cards discarded for equivlants exchange reduce the attribute cost by 2 instead of 1.

Today's Alex is the Elric version of the card. While it has decent stats the effect is sub par compared to the military Armstrong. Honestly if you want to use Alex one should use that one instead unless you need to be in the same faction as your leader. You would have to EE alot of cards just to get the plus 2 strength making it not a really great pump. There's just better cards out there than this.

Overal 2/5
