Maes Hughes, Smitten Husband
6 Command Level 1 Military
Human * Soldier * Hero
3/2/0

While all of your allies are Military, you get +10 to determine the active player.

So we start off Maes Hughes week. I figure we can do Hughes this week with A Hero's Passing coming up soon.
Smitten Husband is probably THE most sought after Hughes leader to date (and a hard one to get).

Why is it so good? First off, it's the only 6 command level 1 leader for Hughes out right now. You might not think so much about the ability, but it is SO good. If you keep recruiting military allies, you'll always be going first no matter what. This also helps out in the search phase because you don't need to assign as many people to still be the active player (in some cases, all you need is Maes :p) The stats aren't too great, but if you start Hakuro and Elysia Hughes you get +1/+1 to his stats since he's a soldier and you can use the baby at home to give him a +4 strength bonus during a battle. You can also elect to start a mix of other military allies like, Vato Falman (to give you another +4 for active player), Military Escorts and Sheska. There are a lot of choices when it comes to what you can start with 6 command.

One drawback is the low stats. 3 strength is fine, but 2 wits can be a little weak especially if you're in a wits location and you're battling against Homonculus (let's say... Lust). Hakuro and the baby help you with this problem, but it's still a little weak. Also, this card is a chase exclusive from the Premier set and is worth a lot. It's being reprinted as a Player's Choice in the next set so that'll offset the degree of difficulty in getting this card.

Rating: 4.5/5
6 command is invaluable and his effect is good.

Maes Hughes, Smitten Husband

Ok here we go. If you're playing Hughes, you're playing Smitten. So +10 to determine active player AND the only 6 command lv 1 Hughes he's the most powerful level one military. At 3/2/0 he's not too strong but you can start his baby to give him +5 strength witch is military's strong suite. So with him as a reprint in ahp he will see even more play.

WOW... Maes hughes is a love puppy... and he shares the love with all his Military bretheren in a +10 to determine the active player manner. The best Lv 1 there is to Hughes... being the Active player is fun, and he helps you get there. if u got him, you play him no questions asked if ur playing Hughes as your Leader.

Rating: 4/5... Awesomeness with a Maes Hughes wrapper.

While all of your allys are military, you get +10 to determine the active player.
I love it because priority in the main and the search action phases are some of the best times to have that priority, but at the same time, if you get +10, that means that you more than likely won't have priority in the search assignment and in the recruit phase, I personally like to know what my opponent has in store before I do some of my most important moves in the game, (recruit + assignment) and also going first before your opponent can do anything (search Action and main) is wonderful, in the action, you can defeat your opponent's fattest fattie before they do anything about it, and in the main, you can do something like clue for the searcj, absorbtion, etc. before they have time to react, and in the recruit, there might be 2 allys in your hand that you can recruit but only one at a time, it is better to know what your opponent is planning to do before you play one or the other because one might be more helpful than the other.

6 Command--Military Faction

Human * Soldier * Hero--Level 1

3 Strength--2 Wits--0 Alchemy

"While all of your allies are Military, you get +10 to determine the active player."

Stat Wise: Average for a 6 command leader that doesn't use Alchemy.

Effect Wise: A very good effect, especially since you'll probably only have Military allies out at the start of game. This should keep you going first until you level up, even if your opponent levels before you do.

The Downside: Well, it's a chase exclusive. Not only that, it is one of the most sought after chase exclusives due to the fact that it is Maes Hughes'
ONLY level 1 with 6 command at this time. So, your chances of getting your hands on this card are slim to none. Luckily, they're going to reprint this card in A Hero's Passing.

Final Word: If you can get your hands on this card and you play Maes Hughes as your leader, there's no real reason not to run this as your level 1 leader. The only other Maes Hughes leader you might want to substitute this one for is Maes Hughes, Insightful Colonel.

I give Maes Hughes, Smitten Husband a 4 out of 5.
