Episode 43: The Stray Dog
Written by AuronLuvr

The show starts with Chezka and Winry at the train station in Resembool, talking about various things when they see an odd man standing to their side. Chezka is frightened by his appearance, and starts panicking. Just as Winry had almost calmed her down, the man walked over to Winry and asked, “Sarah, is that you? You’ve grown up so much.”

Winry grabs Chezka and runs screaming that he must be mistaken.

Elsewhere, Ed and Al are planning to ditch the military, now that they had the Philosopher’s Stone in their possession. They get in a small dispute over this, and make physical contact. Suddenly, Al’s body glows, and they both see this huge gate. “Brother,” Al asked with shock. “Was that the truth?”

Ed looks down and replies with a simple, “Teacher said not to talk about that…”

From there they take an old pathway to Resembool to hide while the military searched for them.

In the meantime, Roy stood with his crew of Riza, Breda, Havoc and Fury pondering why the Elrics would run off, not knowing where he was. Fuhrer King Bradley then approaches Roy, and orders him to capture the Elrics dead or alive for committing treason. Roy knows this is a mistake, but he goes to find the two brothers anyway for some reasons of his own.

While Ed and Al are coming back to Resembool, with the military close behind, Winry and Chezka are hiding out in Pinako’s house, trying to avoid the strange man. Pinako gives the two an odd look, and goes to answer a knock on the door. She greets the guest with a smirk, and invites him in. Winry runs up and asks if her grandma knows the man. Pinako nods and says,

“Winry, meet Hohenheim, Ed and Al’s father.”

Winry’s only response was wide eyes, and a jaw drop. Chezka had hard time believing it too. And just if things couldn’t get any weirder, there is yet another knock on Granny Pinako’s door. This time it’s Ross and Broche, a general and sergeant from the military. They were sent to keep an eye on things, knowing the Elrics might show up. This is a shock to everyone.

While Ed and Al are still making their way to home, Winry helps Hohenheim catch up on what he missed by showing him his wife’s grave. He touches it and talks about the war. He says all human beings are sad.

Ed and Al finally make it into the back woods. Thinking they’re alone, they stand out in the open, but then they hear a gun click behind them. It’s Havoc and Fury, ready to fire. Havoc acts as a friends and says if the brothers come peacefully, he’ll put the gun down. Of course, Ed refuses, and Havoc aims. Ed grabs the tip of the gun. As Havoc shoots, the bullet ricochets and give Havoc a bloody hand and Fury a bloody forehead. Ed and Al run a little further, and encounter Falman and Breda. Ed makes them into carbon ball with alchemy, leaving them helpless. And just as those two brothers think they’re safe, a snap comes out of nowhere. It’s Roy, asking him to calm down and stop. Riza is nearby with a gun in hand.

Winry and Chezka hear the commotion and plan to take out the military dogs. They ask where they might be. Hohenheim points to the river and claims they the fight might be coming from where the old railroad had been before. Winry and Chezka run off thanking him, but Ross has her suspicions.

“But there hasn’t been a railroad there is over 100 years,” Ross thinks to herself.

The fight continues, and the two alchemists are dishing it out with their full strength. During the middle of it, Winry and Chezka pop out of a bush on a bike, and ride to the scene, getting captured in the meantime. They come upon the fight, to where Ed is losing. Ed is about to be obliterated when Winry screams,

“STOP!”

Roy then freezes and remembers the war, and how he assassinated Winry’s parents. He tells everyone how he made a vow to never carry out senseless orders ever again. It is then he confesses that he didn’t come after Ed to capture him, he came because he was “pissed.” The episode closes with Roy shouting at d and asking,

“Why the hell didn’t you ask me for help before you ran away?!”

My Opinion: GREAT EPISODE! One of my favorites! So much happens that helps the plot flow just as a superb anime should! It had so much information, it was hard to summarize it like this! If you miss ANY episodes of FMA, make sure you DON’T miss this one!
