Happy New Years!!  Happy Birthday to me (my birthday is New Years)!  Welcome to my tournament report!  Sorry I haven’t written in a while, but I haven’t been to a tournament in a while!  This was a draft tournament, held at 7:30 at night!  Can we say tired?  I know I can!  There were eight of us, one of whom also sent in a tournament report.  Let’s see how they compare, yah?

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE:

Sealed Pack draft format, each player receives 5 packs from ONE set of their choice.  No Base, cause the store is out of it.  Each deck must be at least 30 cards; using only the cards you pull from the packs.  Each round is best two out of three, swiss scoring system.  You have thirty minutes to construct your deck.  Each round lasts thirty minutes.  If you fall asleep, you are disqualified.  If you give me M&M’s, I’ll be your friend for life.

PACKS:

I chose to draft from Evo-Crushinators.  I lucked into pulling no evolutions I couldn’t use (a real treat, I assure you), but I only ended up using one anyways.  I pulled very nice rares, and plenty of cards that were golden in draft.  My commons and uncommons were also good to me, and I was able to construct a VERY nice mana curve.  Evo rocks in constructed and draft, let me tell you.

DECK STRATEGY:

Summon my fatties to dish out a load of hurt.  If that doesn’t work, rush the life out of them.  Be careful about shields when fighting Shadowclash due to the amount of Shield Trigger Creatures.  Only Evo and Shadowclash were selected (no surprise), so I had nothing to worry about from Rampage.

Parings were announced.  I got the pleasure of facing Matt G, AKA Matt #3.

FIRST ROUND:  LEE vs. Matt #3

Matt was using Shadowclash.  He’d pulled some decent creatures, and I’ll admit I was a bit worried because I didn’t know how well I’d do with his shield trigger creatures.

DUEL ONE:  Matt summoned some small creatures, and I summoned a few blockers.  Finally, I dropped Silver Axe for some mana acceleration, which allowed me to quickly summon my Ethel.  I also summoned Hypersquid Walter, which kept my hand well replenished.  He didn’t get any really good shield triggers, so I won game one. 1-0

DUEL TWO:  This time I summoned Hypersquids again, and drew many cards.  He amassed a decent army, which I Burst Shot on to clear.  I then summoned my fatties, and destroyed him.  Bolzard gave him particular trouble, since he was losing mana. 2-0

Nice try Matt #3.  I mean that.  My next opponent was Justin F., whom I had met online.  He was the one who was also writing a tourney report.  Let us see how our reports compare here.   Be honest, Justin.

SECOND ROUND:  LEE vs. Justin F.

Ramsey gave me a handful of M&M’s before this game began, but I put them aside to eat later.  A victory feast, if you will.  Anyhow, Justin had also drafted from Evo-Crushinators, and he had pulled some NICE stuff.  I was particularly worried about his Ultracide Worm.

DUEL ONE:  This duel went back and forth until I summoned my Bolzard Dragon, which promptly began to destroy his mana so that he couldn’t do much of anything.  I also smashed all his creatures, and he only broke a few of my shields.  In rage, he stole my M&M’s and ate them.  Let me explain something here.  YOU DO NOT STEAL CANDY FROM ME.  He would PAY for this.  3-0

DUEL TWO:  He managed to evo out his Barkwhip, but I destroyed a turn later with my Ethel.  He also summoned a Dark Titan Majinn, which I destroyed by suiciding my Bolzard Dragon.  I amassed a large army, and then went on a mad shield rush.  I think I dropped a particularly annoying Corile in there somewhere too He got PZOWNED. 4-0

That’s what you get for stealing my M&M’s punk!!  Justin went of (sarcastically) calling me a “big Phony”, which got on my nerves.  So I chased him down with a folding chair.  Well, next parings were announced, and my opponent was Ramsey, who had given me my M&M’s in the first place.  He promised to give me more, if I beat him.  Since Chocolate was now on the line, I HAD to win.

THIRD ROUND:  LEE vs. Ramsey

Ramsey had drafted from Shadowclash, and I’ll admit I was starting to get tired now.  I also lost my notes for this round, so these summaries will be very short.

DUEL ONE:  I remember very well that I used Bolzard early on to pillage his mana zone.  Horrid Worm also ridded him of his hand, so he had no options left at the end.  5-0

DUEL TWO: This game I remember quite well.  I summoned Ethel when he only had two Saurius’ on the field, so he used his own Galklife Dragon to destroy them.  He was going to use it next turn to destroy Ethel, but my Rumble Gate changed that.  He lost his big creature, and his fighting spirit.  The duel was pretty much over then.  6-0

I won the bag of M&M’s, which was nice, and then I found out that Justin C. and I were paired up.  I was the only one undefeated, but if he beat me 2-0 he would win the tournament.  But with the power of Chocolate on my side, that wouldn’t happen!

FOURTH ROUND:  LEE vs. Justin C.

So tired… Fortunately, I had lots of sugar in my system so I was still able to duel.  Justin had drafted from Evo, and pulled a Ladia Bale and some other goodies, but I wasn’t worried.  There was no way he’d probably ever be able to bring it out… You think I’m going somewhere with that, don’t you?

ROUND ONE:  I opened with Silver Axe and Hypersquid, so I got a large hand and much mana, so I quickly summoned Ethel and Bolzard.  He couldn’t destroy them, and I mana screwed him near the end too.  7-0

ROUND TWO:  This duel was pretty much just like the one before it, only this time I also used Burst Shot to hurt his field.  The fatties smacked him to death, and I won the tournament.  8-0

UNDEFEATED ALL DAY!!!

THE AFTERMATH:

As I said before, I was undefeated all day!  I got two packs of Shadowclash and a Pack of Evo for winning, which was nice, and I pulled a Rimuel.  I had fun, but I then had to leave to I could be home by midnight (and my Birthday).  It was nice meeting Justin (I still was a big Phony), and I’ll be interested to see how close his report mirrors mine.
