L King Collectables Tournament Houston, TX - Clash of the Cannons!

I thought I'd return to tournament reporting and give highlights on how things are going at L King. Each Tournament gets weirder but funner, even if the results don't change a lot. The reason that this tournament is titled clash of the cannons is because about 4 players (3 of them being adam, me, and my bro) all used twin cannons, and they amazing. Anyway, here's my tournament report:

Deck taken to tournament can be viewed in Deck Garage by the way. It's the version 2 thing.

Anyway, we had 11 players, and since that number was an odd number, Mr. King played too to prevent any bys.

I'll post duels of interest to me, and the ones I watched.

ROUND 1:

Me Vs. Rush Boy

This guy was a new player whose name I forgot. He was using mono rush in its fullest rush possible. Even when it was advantageous for him to attack my creatures, he went my shields. For this reason, it was pretty easy to win, and so each game ended in like 3 minutes. I won this one easily, 2-0.

Match of Interest: My Brother Vs. Adam aka Wiseman aka the_goober (hope you don’t mind me doing this, just want everyone to know ‘ya, lol.)

Even though I missed Duel #1 of this match, I caught most of the rest of Duel #2 and #3. However, I was told most what I needed for Duel #1. In Duel #1, My brother had set up his field very well, and by quite some luck, got his snare and awes as shield triggers quite a lot. since these sts had hurt adam's field pretty bad, my brother cleared the field then went for shields and won. In Duel #2, Adam came back with a little luck for himself as he snared my bro's blocker with his final st'd snare. Then, in Duel #3, my brother found his luck abundant, and was able to use the same tactics used in Duel #1 to win. The score was 2-1, and my brother had won.

This unfortunately made me assume that Adam might not do too well this time, and because I was usually beating my brother, I didn't think I'd have to worry about him. BIG MISTAKE.

ROUND 2:

Brother VS Brother: Unfortunately, the worst had happened, and I was set to play my brother. The feeling that I shouldn't worry about my brother had left, as I knew that this duel could decide if I made it to the Top 4 or not. Furthermore, the results would be bad either way; if I lose, my brother would probably go everywhere bragging that I lost and then I'd have some rough "critics" on my hand. If I won, I'd have to do something to prevent my brother from whinning to me till the end of time. Anyway, the duels were pretty shameful on my part. I believe that in one game, he got 2 snares and 1 awe on me, then waved my field. He'd snare my horns, kill my wennies when he could, and used the dreaded miele-blocker combo to destroy any early drops I played. It was the toughest game I had ever played at L King. He won 2-0.

No match of interest this time, Adam won this round 2-0 easily though.

Current Scores:

Me: 2 wins, 2 loses, 3 points
My Brother: 4 wins, 1 loss, 6 points
Adam: 3 wins, 2 loses, 3 points

There were others who had gone undefeated like James, but I won't mention them unless I have to since he's not a realmer. Anyway, things didn't look too good for me......

ROUND 3:

Me Vs. Mr. King

This Match was an extremely awkward, yet very scary. For me, it was my last chance to have even grain of hope to make it to the Top 4. Of Course, for Mr. King, it was purely fun, since, by his rules, he wouldn't go to the Top 4. Anyway, almost each match was decided by Topdecking. In Duel One, the field stayed pretty empty till turn 8, where Mr. King totally owned me. I had two smash horns on the field, and he had a lancer. He had 1 shield, and about 7 cards in hand, along with 8 mana. I had 3, and was planning to play a twin cannon with the smash horns next turn for sure victory. I had two shields. So on turn 8, he played aqua sniper, and bounced my two creatures. I knew it was game then. He attacked my shields, and there was no st as expected. I did the only move I could, and played twin cannon and attacked. But then he played like 5 creatures, kill my cannon with lancer, and attacked with aqua sniper to totally kill me. Duel Two was a little less horrible. I destroyed all his shields early before turn 6 (lancer ownage at that time), and left him with no evo bait on turn 6 too thanks to searing wave. However, he kept me from winning for a very long time, and would have actually won had he evo'd his aqua guard into lancer instead of hulcus. I got no sts out of 4 shields, but got a twin cannon and paladin while he had no shields, and won. The next game was decided by topdeck, since I put him at no shields and just waited for a twin cannon or paladin, then won. This game ended 2-1, giving me a chance for Top 4.

Matches of Interest:

My Brother Vs. James

Didn't see this one, but according to James, my brother's luck died here. He said my brother did nothing game 1, but was able to break 3 shields game 2. Either way, the game ended 2-0 with James winning.

Adam Vs. Bal

This game took about 50 minutes, but it was so slow that I just couldn't stand waiting that long. I missed most of the match, but Adam won 2-1.

And it was time finally for Top 4. The candidates were:

Me: 4 wins, 3 loses, 6 points
My Brother: 4 wins, 2 loses, 6 points
Adam: 5 wins, 3 loses, 6 points
James: 6 wins, 0 loses, 9 points
Some little Kid who won 2 Matches.

Well, seeing as I had the worst record (don't know about the kid), I was actually worried that I might lose to the Kid. I knew that James, Adam, and my brother were already in for sure, but I didn't know how the kid had done. However, by some weird calculations I'll probably never understand, the kid was out, and I had gotten a higher point record than my brother and Adam. The Top 4 were:

Me Vs. My Brother (AGAIN!!!!)
Adam Vs. James (Oh well, at least the two major threat have to battle it out.)

Anyway, in my match against my brother, It seemed as I had stolen his luck. He had almost no sts, and i got 5 sts in one game and 3 in the other. I also was able to actually maintain a field without losing it in one turn. I won this one pretty easily, 2-0. Oh well, luck doesn't last forever my friends.....

Adam Vs. James

Didn't really care much for this match, cause they were both almost equally dangerous IMO. But still, Adam was able to win (Don't know if its 2-0 or 2-1)

FINAL MATCH:

Me Vs. Adam

I guess, somewhere in my heart, I knew I'd play him. That, and the fact that In every tourny I play him and we have closely equal records. Anyway, the curse took effect here. It was actually what decided the game. That, and my few tweaks made to counter his deck. We had a small discussion over splitting, but when Mr King said 50-50 or play for all $33, I took advantage of the moment and offered to split. Call me superstitious, but it worked. I won, for the first time ever I think, 2-0 against adam, after he found out brutal charge was a horrible card, and I was lucky to find him never get a snare or pit as st.

All in all, it was the most luck-dependant DM tournament I had ever gone too. Twin Cannons were flying everywhere, but for some reason, there was always a hunter fish, marrow ooze, or aqua guard in its way. It was still a wacky tournament filled with surprises, and taught me, and im sure adam and my bro, to always stay sharp.

Final records for the famed 3 (lol, jk):

Me: 8-3
Adam: 7-5
My Brother: 4-5

Hope you enjoyed my Tournament Report!
