$5 entry- 16 players

Hey, everyone. I’m back for the next tourney report. This one is the first constructed after survivors, so my rikabu gets its first show. This Saturday was interesting. I caught the Pokemon movie that was on the WB in the morning (I don’t really know why, but I was dragged into its hypnotic spell), so I got to the tourney a little later than 11.

The irony of this day was weird. The first being that the store was, again, packed with people for another tournament. Last week was the mechwarrior Age of Destruction pre-release. Today was the Pokemon city championships. I was gonna enter, but you need ex cards, and my deck is all old school stuff. 44 people showed up. 44…….wow. That took me by surprise; I thought for the most part, Pokemon was gone, much like the rest of the world probably believed.

So, without further ado, here’s the deck.

Shadow Flame

Fire Monsters

4x Deadly Fighter Braid Claw

3x Mini-Titan Gett

3x Brawler Zyler

2x Armored Blaster Valdios

4x Rikabu, the Dismantler

4x Rothus, the Traveler

Total-20

Fire Spells

3x Tornado Flame

Total-3

Darkness Monsters

4x Marrow Ooze, the Twister

3x Bloody Squito

4x Wailing Shadow Belbetphlo

Total-11

Darkness Spells

4x Terror Pit

3x Death Smoke

2x Critical Blade

Total-9

Total-43???

The deck has 43 cards. 43. Awkward number if I do say so myself. The deck did have 42, but I really only could have taken out 3 cards for 4, so that’s how I got stuck with 43.

I’ve had this deck ever since the start of evo-crushinators, when everyone went crazy with the blue-green decks that bounce.

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, we can start with the tournament. We had 16 people, fairly high for our tournament’s normal turn out. First round pairings were up, and we were off

Round 1-Nimbly Vs. Shane M. (Red-Black Deck, looks like mine)

Game 1- It’s real annoying when a person of the same color strategy plays you. It really becomes a game of who can get out the better cards faster. This game was basically his, since he busted out his 2 costs out faster than me. I got out a valdios and cleared the field of his stuff, but I was down to no shields and a rikabu in my hand, ready to beat him next turn. He had no cards in his hand and 1 shield left. Guess what he top decks? Yea, Rikabu. Seriously weak.

Shields-(0-1)-Winner-Shane

Game 2- This game was also his to start of with strong. the shields came down to me having 1 left when he had 3 attackers the next turn. He had 3 shields and I had a valdios and brawler zyler ready to attack. This time, I had 2 rikabu to summon, so the shields were gone without a shield trigger

Shields-(1-0)-Winner-Nimbly

Game 3- This game was also close. The game came down to no shields and who could play a monster without having the opponent kill it. Here’s the lay down on this game

My turn-played brawler zyler

His turn- death smoke

My turn- bloody squito

His turn- rothus the traveler

My turn- drew rothus

His turn- mini titan

My turn- drew titan, killed it off with the rothus

His turn…drew marrow ooze

My turn- Rikabu-game

Shields-(0-0)-Winner-Nimbly

This round was all rikabu. Rikabu finished each game. It’s cool, but very cheap, especially when someone uses it against you. The next round came up, and we were off.

Round 2- Nimbly vs. Grant S. (Mono-Blue deck)

Game 1- I rushed him quick with 2 deadly fighters and a marrow ooze by round 2. they took out 3 shields total, until is blocker swarm came up. Angler cluster, marine flower, phantom fish, the works. They had me down for a while. He brought out a crystal lancer and took out 2 shields. Soon, I had a valdios knock out the rest of the shields and the blockers, while rikabu finished the job.

Shields-(2-0)-Winner-Nimbly

Game 2- This game was closer. I only had 3+ costs in my hand and he got out the blockers quick. Eventually, those went down by a valdios. He got out a stained glass. He attacked with it and I had a rothus and was ready to attack next turn with 2 rikabu. He forgot to use the stained glass effect. I let him do that, he brought out blockers and took me out with the crystal lancer

Shields-(0-2)-Winner-Nimbly

Game 3- This one was more on my side. He had almost no blockers and I had out my 2 costs quick. He did get crystal lancer out, but it fell to the terror pit in my shields. Valdios finished this one with 2 attacks, with some help from a wailing shadow.

Shields-(3-0)-Winner-Nimbly

That was alright. People make mistakes. I’ve faced people who when I made a mistake they get all crazy on you. You end up not liking them, and trouble just starts.

Round 3 was up.

Round 3- Nimbly vs. Michael H. (Mono-Darkness Deck) Beatdown based.

Game 1- The problem with his deck is that it doesn’t have very good blockers. He got out marrow ooze and wandering braineater, which I took out with my humans. He did get out a couple of chaos worms, which are annoying, but it really didn’t help. 2 brawlers and a rikabu finished this one.

Shields-(3-0)-Winner-Nimbly

Game 2- This one was closer. He got out stronger blockers, like bloody squito and dark clown, which took out my humans and my valdios. His chaos worms kept taking out my blockers so his other monsters can get a chance to attack. The game came up to a point blank, no card or shield game. I had a rikabu waiting the whole time, but he had a blocker out the entire time. Every time I had a monster, he countered it by killing it off. Eventually, I drew a 2nd rikabu and took him out with both.

Shields-(0-0)-Winner-Nimbly

Yea. Rikabu’s bad…

Round 4-FINALS!!- Nimbly vs. Jason H. (mono-Darkness Deck) Card control based

This deck is interesting. It focuses on you having next to none amount of cards in your hand, while he has a library in his.

Game 1- This game was close, I got out a mini-titan, and he got out a writhing bone ghoul. He kept busting out stuff like locomotiver to stop me from getting a rikabu victory and evolving humans into Valdios. And then mongrel man is out to make his hand bigger. Add in some strong shield triggers and blockers and slayers and you got yourself a deck of evil. This game however went to him. As he took me out with mongrel mans and shadow moons.

Shields-(0-2)-Winner-Jason

Game 2- I came out quick with the fast stuff and he didn’t get out the blockers or the shield triggers to stop me, except for a locomotiver that discarded my Valdios. Besides that, this game was mine.

Shields-(5-0)-Winner-Nimbly

Game 3- This game was horrible for me. The hand I started with was not promising, as most of it was 3+ cost monsters and spells. He had control of the field and of my hand. The entire game, he had busted out 3 mongrel mans. I came back with a valdios, but a terror pit took him out, along with the chance of another comeback. This game was over with mongrel man and shadow moon.

Shields-(0-2)-Winner-Jason

That sucked. I really had no chance to use a rikabu at all. Whenever I had him, he had a grey balloon, or a marrow ooze to stop it. So, Jason came in first, Gustaf came in second because of better tie breakers, and I got third. I got 2 packs and the 2 new promos. A foil Ballus, Dogfight Enforcer Q and an Olgate, Nightmare Samurai. It’s not bad actually.

I got 2 packs and Gustaf got 3. he pulled nothing. I pulled…a Death Cruzer and a La Byle!!! I was missing Death Cruzer from my set, so that was cool. I also got the Avalanche giant from another kid, finishing my set of survivors within a week.

Ok, now for the Props and Slops

Props

-Rikabu being cool

-Getting 2 foils from 2 packs.

-Finishing my set

-Getting 3 Balloms and a Valdios in trading

Slops

-Rikabu being cheap

-Not winning when I had a comeback in the works

-Today being the last day of freedom from school the next week. Finals blow…AP History, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus,…damn.

-Not entering the pokemon tourney. They got some pretty cool stuff and my old school deck is much like the one I used 3 years ago, and for 1/10 the price. I think the winner got 18 packs and a pretty big medal. And the tourney was free. *sigh*…

Well, that’s it for the tournament. Tune in next week for the next tournament. Finally, to conclude this report, to quote the king of Late Night: The legendary Johnny Carson, Thank You & Goodnight.

Thank you Johnny for what you have given this world, a love for comedy, a reason to stay up late, and an icon for the world to remember, forever.
