Tournament of the Five Civilizations
Tourney Report by Dr. Monte Eads

Hey, I just played one the Duel Masters Tournament of the 5 Civilizations, and won..woot. I have a tourney report and was wondering if you could post it:

Well guys, after around four weeks of terrible luck, I finally won a tournament. Rejoice my children. :p I won the Tournament of the Five Civilizations. Honk! It was actually fairly easy, and I didn't expect the little teching I did would work. And what else gets me is that this tournament was decided on a coin flip between this deck and a Blue Black Control deck (which was tooled to stop Blue/Green). Now, if you know me, you know I hate the mainstream decks, because I think they ruin the fun, espicially the people that run it and nothing else. Terrible. But, I decided to run a variation of Blue/Green that did not focus totally on Evos like other ones do. It's all about teching the one or two cards that make a huge difference.

Well, on with the report.

Pre-tourny summarization:

The judge of the tournament made me do most of the work, therefore I didn't get to do as much playtesting as I wanted. In fact, we ran an hour and a half late and had to cut a round in order to save time. Real quick, I want to apologize to any players this may have messed up, I am trying to fix the problems we're having with that judge. Ok. So everyone showed up, including Gordon Kane who used to do COTD for Pojo. I played his mono blue deck with my Blue Green and owned him. Then he played my Blue Black with his Black and owned me. Cool. After getting everything ready, we started the tournament.

Round 1
Monte Eads aka NFG vs Mike Mullan

His deck was the only one that seemed to put up a big fight to mine, we went 2-1 because of his luck with Shield Triggers, and his lack of card sleeves. (You know that makes a difference, lol) Well, I took the first game feeling confident, then he beat me and I got a bit scared. It came down to his evos vs my bunch of little guys running into Mana Nexus. Well I caught a break and Lancered into his Lancer, then started blocking his guys, which eventually led to an OTK for me. GG.

Round 2
Monte Eads aka NFG vs Mark Lovill

Mark was a nice guy. He beat Gordon earlier which gave me a bit of a scare. His deck relied way to much on the draw, which I nicely told him after the game. His deck is what I call a Utility deck. It tries to counter too much at one time, and ends up "caving in". The first game he drew very well and played very well, so he killed me. The second game I returned the favor by owning him. The last game I won due to a fatal error on Mark's part. He didn't block my Double Breaker hoping for some Trigger action. Sorry Mark. GG.

Round 3
Monte Eads aka NFG vs Eric Arriola

Eric is a cool guy, he always finds a way to interfere with me when I judge Yu Gi Oh. Eric was running another popular deck right now, which was Hydro Hurricane. Notable cards were Marinomancer, Terror Pit, and of course, Hydro Hurricane. The problems with these decks are that they must either Hurricane or Diamond Cut to win, because the only attacker is pretty much Marinomancer. The first game I lost due to a wasted Crystal Paladin. Next game, I conserved the Paladin until I would win, woot. Third game I won due to a survived Diamond Cutter attack, taking out 4 Shields. With the new hand advantage I pretty much took the game. GG Eric, I think you need some Mist Rias ..;-)

Round 4
Monte Eads aka NFG vs Benjamin Pauling

Benjamin is my accomplice in this game. In my opinion, we are the best players around our area. Earlier we were considering running Blue Black to counter Blue Green or just run Blue Green. He stuck with Blue Black and I flipped a coin and ended up running Blue Green. I stopped all over him. Total ownage'd. Teehee, sorry Benjamin. This was my only 2-0 game during the Swiss.

Final Four

Round 1
Monte Eads aka NFG vs Rob Efseroff

Rob was running the Hydro Hurricane deck, but it was too slow...waaaay slow. Also, I don't think he drew much. So I won again 2-0. Woot?

Round 2
Monte Eads aka NFG vs Eric Tang

Eric just eliminated Benjamin, assuring my revenge. Yay. 2-0 again. I drew fairly well, and focused on early shield manipulation over early attacking. Thats how you beat Blue/Green. And I tried not to attack until I take out at least three shields. Well, I won, again I don't think Eric drew anything good. I think that was due to the heavy reliance on evo creatures. ( I get to see decklists )

By the way, the alternate art Holy Awe = Total Wootage. Game over.

Well, here's the deck.

23x Blue
4x Aqua Hulcus
3x Corile
3x Aqua Guard
3x Emeral
2x Crystal Lancer
1x Aqua Jolter
1x Crystal Paladin
1x Aqua Soldier
1x Illustionary Merfolk
4x Spiral Gate

18x Green
4x Bronze Arm Tribe
2x Mana Nexus
2x Burning Mane
2x Torcon
2x Fighter Dual Fang
2x Barkwhip the Smasher
4x Natural Snare

Note: Don't rely on Evos and you'll win. Mana Nexus doesn't NEED to be activated if it is a Trigger. And remember kids, you can DROP EVOS AS MANA!
