The Basics

We're heading out of the days were a card's efficiency could be directly perceived at a moment's notice. As we move further into the Japanese cards, more abstract effects tend to change the structure (and therefore play) of the game.

Rustle is another one of those guys that looks like an interesting gimmick card, but it's actually a powerful Tier 1 weapon. Being a 2-cost Initiate is great, and having that extra 500 power to run over creatures appearing around the time you can play him can really make the difference. Craze Valkyrie is going to be one of the most powerful evolutions for a long time, and Rustle has the potential to protect cards in your hand from their demise.

Playing with 40 cards and smaller hands definitely makes his ability more serious -- being able to pick him off at a time where he no longer matters to save that game-winning spell or creature can make or break the duel. Because of his early-game body and all-around effect, he's a great choice for Light Civilization right now.

How This Affects The Game

We may see an increase in discard, but probably not too soon. Jenny is still running rampant in some of KC's most dominant decks. Aggro-Control is really the focal point of the game right now, and Light Civilization is incredibly powerful. If anything, we'll see decks emerging using Rustle alongside the current discard suites to deplete the opponent's resources while protecting good topdecks you're not ready to play yet.

Cards that do something while also killing a creature are going to be huge, because simply whacking this guy is going to be a waste of your mana and ultimately your turn. We're going to see an increase in Aqua Surfer spinoffs to maintain tempo, like Stronghold of Lightning & Flame.

How This Affects You

I. Playing With

You're probably going to want to stock up on more evolutions simply because you can (and they're awesome). This may allow you to play 1 or 2 copies of something you didn't feel was safe to hold onto for that extra turn, because it's always getting picked off by a topdecked Jenny.

II. Playing Against

In addition to one-time cards that serve a dual purpose like I mentioned, check out cards like Slaphappy Soldier Galback. They're going to see an increase in play and can really help if you need to start tearing at your opponent's hand. Remember, attacking is "in" again so don't hesitate to experiment!

As always, you can find me on Kaijudo Portal under the name Thomas_Jay. Until next time!
