The Basics

This is a guy that you should look at and initially realize is good stuff. Seven mana can look a little high for an evolution creature, but not by much -- and once you see that "Triple Breaker" combined with the shield trigger negation, you should know it's totally worth it. Most Mystery Totems average a cost of five to six anyway, so this isn't really that much of a cost hike since he'd our action for most turns anyway. The downside, of course, is Mystery Totems are hard to come by -- but there are some great ones, and they're pretty easy to slip into a deck if you're not honing on the theme. I'm personally running Akashic Second and Cryptic Totem in a beatdown-fashioned combo deck, which they fit into quite easily.  Forbidden Totem is also pretty amazing, especially for those of you who actually want to devote to the theme. Surprise Totem is a beatstick trigger, which makes the evolution even harder to disrupt -- he should probably be in every deck using the card, since he's a decent body and allows you to swing at three untriggerable shields almost immediately.

How This Affects The Game

Shield Burning is always one of the best control tactics, or aggressive decks -- who doesn't want to guarantee the inability to trigger? Obviously he doesn't work so great in rush, costing seven, but he's a decent last resort if you're already running Nature and getting away with picks like Shaman Broccoli and Bronze-Arm Tribe.

This helps shift the meta more towards a resource management game, rather than a series of miniature confrontations. We're going to be steering a teeny bit away from the currently popular "attack, counterattack, do something to your guys while attacking" schedule most decks are running on. Because when I can slam three of your shields away and guarantee no opposition for the rest of my assault, why wouldn't I do it that way? Most decks should be running Nature anyway, and the baits even help counterattacking.

How This Affects You

This is pretty similar to Aqua Spy.

Do you have Nature in your deck?

Do you like to attack, or dislike your opponent using triggers?

If so, Messiah the Battlemaster!

If not, then you're going to want to up your removal, discard, and mana denial -- all really big things you need to be doing right now to stay competitive anyway. Really important that you can stop this guy from coming out in as many ways as possible, since he's HUGE and takes out half your life.

I'm playing a little more on KP, usually using this guy, so feel free to find me and see what I'm talking about! My username is Thomas_Jay.
