From the Vaults of the Kaijudo Masters – DenverKaijudo
February 4, 2013
By JMatthew

With the extensive use of social media, the landscape of the Kaijudo social world has already differentiated itself from that of Duel Masters by leaps and bounds. During the days of Duel Masters the anonymous writer behind the computer screen, pounding out words in hope that someone, anyone cared to read them was the norm. Now with the likes of Twitter, Facebook and the ungodly behemoth known as YouTube, players of all sorts have found an outlet to more fully express their support for the game they love. In the few short months of Kaijudos’ existence, more words have been spoken and written regarding Kaijudo than Duel Masters had during its entire existence.

It is from that understanding which “From the Vaults of the Kaijudo Masters” is born as a series of articles. These articles are intended to present a series that may function as a primer of sorts. With this I hope that we might more quickly introduce new players to some of the great and passionate content out there. In addition, for those already familiar with said content I hope that I can help bring us a bit closer as a community with new perspectives and understanding regarding those content providers.

While DenverKaijudo has not received as much attention as some of the previous interviewees, Preston and his crew based out of (of course) Denver, Colorado have added a good deal to the community through their own special take on the game. Preston’s presentation has a certain flair and energy that keeps a small pocket of loyal viewers coming back time and again.

As an exciting turn of events, with DenverKaijudo’s had informed us that they plan to attend the Oklahoma City Box Tournament being held at Game HQ (1620 SW 89th St, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73159) on February the 9th!  For the first time three different local metas will have the opportunity to collide as Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado players advance upon the unsuspecting city.

JMatthew: So, who are you in real life?

DenverKaijudo: y Name is Preston. I live in Denver, Colorado. I am working as a CNA at a nursing home by Red Rocks Amphitheater. I have recently started school full- time and with work full-time, I have had a serious lack of Kaijudo time. I apologize for this, but promise I am in the works of making that change. I come from Pokemon TCG and believe this game is actually gonna go the extra mile! :)

J: What part of the country do you play in?

D: As recently stated I live in Denver. So I play mainly in Denver areas. I am currently hold 3 separate leagues in Denver. Those leagues are my favorite part of the week. I have devoted my free time to Kaijudo and love everything this community has given back to me. If ya would like to know where the leagues are PM me on YouTube.

J: Why do you play Kaijudo?

D: I don’t play Kaijudo... *psh* I live Kaijudo. This game, THIS COMMUNITY, guys, I love everything that has come from Kaijudo. What gets me so attached to this game unlike other card games, is that not one play style (control, rush, ramp) is the meta. They all can be just as competitive as the other. It truly comes down to the player in this game. Coming from playing Pokemon where a few certain decks were top tier and always were the competition, this is a nice change. Another reason I love this game is the show. The show hits me in my personal life. Like Bob (Tatsurion) I am a mix of two races and have had similar problems in life that I have faced. I don’t need to go into those, but if you want an idea watch the show and interactions Tatsurion has with his family:).

J: Do you have a favorite card and why?

D: My favorite card hands down is Orion, Radiant Fury. If you know anything about me, my favorite thing in the world is dragons. This is a three headed dragon that is from my favorite civ and has the sickest abilities. I love this card!!! Watch my Youtube channel and you will see a deck I based around this card and the amazing things I have done with this deck. One more time watch the show... this dragon lays down the law in the show too.

J: What is your favored play style?

D: My favorite playstyle?!?! Like i guess my play style is weird. It’s not really control and it’s not really aggro, but it’s like right in there. I like to play cards that make my opponents think twice before they kill them. Examples: Slayers, for obvious reasons. Bronze Arm Sabretooth because he gives two mana to me if you destroy him which gives me an upper hand. Lastly Orion Radiant Fury because his ability allows me to summon up to three more creatures off of his death. I love cards that like to be pawned for my victory. I don’t know what to call those cards, but I love using them. I kinda base my play style off of cards like those stated.

J: What made you decide to start your own Kaijudo Channel on YouTube?

D: What made me start this channel? These two friends of mine convinced me to start this channel because they felt we had something to give the community. They felt like we could potentially help it grow and also make this game more fun for ourselves by giving us more of a reason to play because at the time it was only us three playing in Denver. So in the grand scheme of things, I finally agreed and now we are this far which who would of thought right. Got to love you all! Thank you so much!

Okay, so there was a question here about competitive play. Apparently we have obtained news that OP and such is coming. This is by far the most exciting news we have obtained as a community. I am so happy they announced and blah blah blah. So instead of going down the path of this question as intended and sense we all know this OP is coming, I want to do my best to help Kaijudo players everywhere reach a competitive level. So that being said if you would like to Skype battle, WHICH I LOVE, please PM Denverkaijudo on YouTube and either Mike D or me will reply with our Skype names so we can battle.

I am very excited to where this game is heading guys. I promise there will be more content up soon. Also Mike D is back, so expect to see him more. I guess all I can say is thanks for reading this. DENVER LOVES YA ALL.
