Duel Masters: Is it really original, or just really a rip-off?-The Dark Advocate

Greetings web heads! Welcome to another exciting issue of The Dark Advocate! In today's chapter, Darky, as I so affectionately call him, has decided to share with us some of his insight onto why people sometimes complain of it being (it being Duel Masters) a rip-off and copy of other popular games.

Sorry about that, getting of a Spider-Man high. Anyway, it cant be just me, but I seem to see people, who, with no real knowledge of the game, seem to think its a Yu-gi-oh and Magic rip-off.

When you look at it, there are similarities. There mana, and resource management like in Magic, and it plays like a Yu-gi-oh game. X amount of cards, draw this per turn, X is a Y, but this X is a G...yada yada...make sense? Good.

But, when you look at it closer, you notice a lot of things. Like, for example, shield triggers. There pretty cool, right? But then, the Yu-gi-oh fan says "Well, we got quick play magic cards! Nurp!" ::explodes::...Well, they don't explode, but you get the point. But, unlike quick play, their in the shield zone, which is something like life points in Yu-gi-oh, and whatever the 20-odd thing you get in Magic is called. But, that gives you card advantage, and other stuff, like, instead of triggering it, you could hold onto it until later.

Also, there's a difference in the cost of playing. Now, I don't really play Magic, but from what I understand, its fairly cheap. But, I did play Yu-gi-oh, and I noticed how expensive it was to make a really good deck. But, in Duel Masters, the stuff is dirt cheap! I only pay about $1.50-2.00 a booster pack from my local card shop guy. Plus, he knows me, so half the time its friendly discount time! Wheeeee! ^^ Anyway......

If you sit and think about it, anytime you play a card game, you can nit-pick and find similarities in them all. Now, I don't personally think Duel Masters is groundbreaking. I think, however, it takes up the slack other games left you with. That's why like it. So, yeah...I guess if you read this far, you either value my opinion, or think I'm hot. I'll take the latter.

So, w00t-w00t, yammer over. If you've got a problem, or w/e, feel free to e-mail me at GenStd4@Aol.com. However, junk mail and...well, weird e-mails will force me to put your s/n on my pink construction paper hate list. Its a scary place to be.
