Fact of Fiction? - Marvel S. Shadowclash of Blinding Night is one of the best sets in DM IMO. Why? because it gives us one of the best card drawing engine in the game (well for light & darkness civ only actually). Most people already heard about the 5 mana Mist Rias and Mongrel Man. But have anyone heard about Aquan? Aquan Water Civilization RARE Creature - Cyber Lord 4 MANA 2000 Power When Aquan comes into play, turn the top 5 cards of your deck face up. Put ALL light AND darkness civilization cards into YOUR HAND and discards the rest INTO YOUR GRAVEYARD. If you're an MTG player (at least) since the Invasion block, there's no way you don't know about Fact or Fiction. One of (if not) the greatest card drawing tool a Blue player could ever have. Well this little cyber lord do just quite the same, but waaayyy better. Almost a guaranteed 3-5 cards drawn each time you summon this guy, IF you build your deck right. Pros - Water : A friendly color for both light and darkness civilization - It's a friggin' rare darn it! for an effect as cool as this, it's near broken! Almost the same as the way Fact or Fiction is just an uncommon. - 4 MANA! You could just exhaust your hand for the first 4 turns, cast 1-2 blockers, and get up to 5 cards at turn 4 to refill your hand. (FYI it has the same casting cost as Fact or Fiction too) - 2000 Power won't do much, but at least it CAN attack. (Get this, summon, draw cards, attack, break a shield if it's lucky, get itself killed, fetch it with dark reversal, summon it again, rinse, repeat) - Put ALL light AND darkness cards into your hand!?! You get to put ALL and I mean ALL 5 cards if all of them are from the Light or Darkness civilization deck. You don't have to choose either one, you don't have to choose a pile of cards, you get to draw all. Slap me with a crowbar if that's not near-broken - Put the non light & darkness civ cards into your GRAVEYARD! Instead of putting them out of the game, they are discarded into your graveyard (for you to fetch them back with cards such as dark reversal, brain piercer, etc) Man, this card even have the same "put the rest into your graveyard" effect of Fact or Fiction too. Cons: - TOTAL CRAP in a mono water deck. Just think of Psychic Shaper, only it does the opposite. - Your opponent get to know the cards when you flip them face up (since it would be cheating if you don't show your opponent if you had drawn any non light/dark civ cards). This will make him or her aware of the danger, think of a counter strategy & beat you outright. (But that's the point, you could just set him/her up for a nice 'trap'. But IMO with the card advantage, you probably won't even need to do that) - Getting decked. 5 Cards is a 1/8 of a normal 40 cards deck. Summon happy this fella, and you could find yourself losing faster than you can say "what the...?" That's why you should only put this guy into a 40+ cards deck. - It wastes a turn to summon him. It's better than casting a brain serum on turn 4, but if you are playing againts a mono color rush (fire civ especially) and have little to no blockers ready. A comeback can be a chore, but very possible. Just hang on. - It's a cyber lord. Currently not very evo friendly for sure. But what am I complaining about? Well, as you can see the pros really outweights the cons. The cons are probably too minor to give you any real drawbacks. Slap this guy in a mono color light / dark deck and you're good to go. Playing a Light/water or Darkness/water is big mistake since you're going to discard most of your water civ cards. The best way is to put water cards as few as possible without risking not being able to cast him. In a 40 cards deck, the ideal number for a "minor color" is 9 cards. Since Aquan is best packed in a 40+ cards deck, you should probably raise the thickness of your deck to 44 or 42 at the least. The "minor color" card count should be raised too. For me, having 11 water civilization cards in a 44 card deck (1/4 of the deck) is the ideal number. Try and experiment with other kinds of combination and find the best combination for your needs. In the end, thanks for reading my first article / tips / strategy. Keep your eyes peeled for Aquan when Shadowclash is released on november. This is gonna be quite a chase card. Thank God it's only a normal Rare ;) So is this Fact or Fiction? Let's just wait and see....
