Welcome back everyone!
Apparently we had some technical difficulties with
getting some of the reviews up, but hopefully that
has been taken care of for everyone. As some of you
may know, I attended a KMC out to New Holland, PA
this past weekend. We had 37 players in attendance
and I finished at 2nd place running a mono-darkness
build of a Kalima deck! Make sure to check out my
YouTube account for a deck profile as well as my
team's page for a player interview of yours truly.
I'm really excited to chalk up an invite for the
Pojo community and I hope to continue with this
success next month at the Winter Championships! Onto
more relevant matters though, today's card is
Forgelord Vesuvius, let's get started!
Name: Forgelord Vesuvius
Civilization: Fire
Type: Creature
Race: Blaze Champion
Level: 7
Power: 6000
Flavor Text: Fighting over the weapons forged
by Vesuvius is almost as common as fighting with
them.
Rarity: Super Rare
Set Number: S4/S10 l 9SHA
Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Rekindle- Whenever this creature wins a
battle, you may discard your hand. If you do, draw 5
cards.
Forgelord Vesuvius is an
interesting card to say the least. It introduces us
to yet another "Champion" race, this one being a
"Blaze Champion." He also has some pretty standard
stats for a level 6 creature, 6000 power with Double
Breaker.
Vesuvius' "Rekindle" ability is
very reminiscent of a Magic the Gathering ability
from quite a few of their fire spells/planeswalkers.
Basically, you discard cards from your hand but
instead of drawing a card for each one discarded,
you get to automatically draw five cards. So
essentially, if you have no cards in your hand when
you win a battle with this guy, you can discard
NOTHING and draw five cards!
When you are lacking resources,
Vesuvius jumps in to aid you in your battle. It's
very likely that your opponent will keep their
weaker creatures from attacking you if they ever see
you have this card in the battle zone. At the same
time it's also beneficial that you won't need to
worry about your opponent's Blockers, unless they
want you to regain extra advantage from banishing
their creature.
If you really want to make this
effect go off, I would recommend using cards like
Overcharge or Cinder Fist to attack untapped
creatures while giving your creatures a power boost.
You could even use light cards to tap your
opponent's creatures and attack over them that way
as well.
As of now, no one has really
made this card an amazing item. There are ways to
abuse this card and to get it out early, but it
usually involves using a lot of ramp spells. In the
process, however, you're able to replenish your hand
when you have successfully defeated an opponent's
creature.
The biggest downfall of this
card is that it's a level 7 creature that needs to
win a battle for its effect to go off, and it's only
6000 power. This can prove to be problematic for the
card at times. There are power booster spells that
could be beneficial such as Monstrify, but only time
will tell if they'll ever be worth running.
Constructed: 2.75/5.00
(It has potential to net you a lot of advantage but
requires a lot of effort to do so..)
Limited: 3.25/5.00 (This card is essentially
a draw spell. The bad part about it though, is that
you only have a limited amount of cards to work
within your deck and that could lead to a potential
deck out situation.)
I hope you enjoyed this review!
