Hello again there my fellow
Kaijudo Duel Masters! We're continuing the countdown
of my top ten cards from Invasion Earth, and this
one is a HUGE one! No, seriously... this card has
cities and civilizations built on his back! Let's
get right down to number nine, Warbringer Poseidon.
Name: Warbringer
Poseidon
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Race: Corrupted/Leviathan
Level: 7
Power: 7000
Flavor Text: "By using the Helm to control
the leviathan, I was able to instigate an attack on
the Fire Civilization." -The Choten
Rarity: Super Rare
Set Number: S2/S10 l 10INV
Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Mindwipe- Each time one of your Corrupted
creatures would be banished, return it to your hand
instead.
Tainted Seas- You tap 2 fewer mana cards to
summon Corrupted creatures.
Warbringer Poseidon must have
meant to be a big selling point for Corrupted
players out there. It's massively overpowered when
compared to other creatures from other various
races... aka Aquans. Aquans tend to have really
lower power and usually an ability that allows them
to return back to the owners hand. Or let's even
take a look at Finbarr's Dreadnought, it costs an
additional mana to summon for less power and it
doesn't even protect itself from destruction. I
understand Dreadnought works for all your other
creatures and draws you two cards, but in comparison
to a 7000 Double Breaker than can reduce the cost of
the Corrupted archetype by two and allowing all of
them to return to your hand if they were to be
banished... *sigh*
So it's pretty obvious that
this card has some power creep going on. It makes
Aquan cards almost pointless. There are a ton of
playable Corrupted creatures in Invasion Earth, most
of them are level 4 or less! That means, in some
cases, that you can play some of them for free do to
Warbringer's "Tainted Seas" ability!
If you can manage to ramp into
playing this guy on turn four or five, it is nearly
impossible to deal with him outside of temporarily
bouncing him to hand or by sending him to mana via
Root Trap. Once this guy is out, all of the
controller's Corrupted creatures cost two less and
basically can't really die and will just return to
your hand instead when they would be banished. Just
imagine stacking the ability of two or more
Warbringers at a time!
Overall, this card is a great
addition to the control variant of the Corrupted
deck, but I don't see it being run in the other more
aggressive variants. Time will only tell how good
this card will be, but for now, it earns a spot on
my top ten list of cards from Invasion Earth.
Constructed: 3.75/5.00
(Get him out and the game becomes immensely easier
as long as you're running a Corrupted deck.)
Limited: 4.75/5.00 (He's still a high cost
creature, but this game is a lot slower in limited.
Getting to seven mana isn't as hard as you think it
would be. Allowing you to summon a creature turn
after turn (since there's no permanent removal in
the set to deal with him) that also reduces the cost
of Corrupted creatures, is just downright crazy!)
I hope you enjoyed today's
review! Make sure to stop by again tomorrow when we
move on to number eight on the list! Also, be sure
to check out my articles on Alter Reality Games page
as well on every Monday! Until next
time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and
game on!
