Hello again everyone and welcome to Pojo’s Card of the Day! Today we’re looking at another multi-civilization card in the form of Squillace Scourge. Let’s get started!

Tempest of Tentacles- When this creature enters the battle zone, your opponent can’t attack or block with creatures until the start of your next turn.

Today’s card reminds me so much of the cartoon “Street Sharks”. Anyways, here we have a Level 9 creature, which usually means something pretty amazing is going to happen when you play him, and it does! Whenever he enters the battle zone, two things happen: He discards both players’ hands and he makes it so that your opponent can’t attack or block until your next turn!

Oh, did I mention he has 8000 power and Double Breaker on top of that? Not too shabby! Okay, back to the bread and butter of this card. Mindcrush, if played around correctly, can almost have the same effect as a well-timed Skull Shatter. It’s likely that it will affect you slightly but not as much as it does to your opponent. Add to the fact that Tempest of Tentacles completely shuts down any blockers that your opponent has under their control and completely protects you from attacks for an entire turn!

This card seems pretty good overall but it can be a little daunting to get it out since it is 9 mana and it’s not a Dragon, so no birds for this guy! If you can play control and get to this guy you could set up some interesting plays. Imagine having a Leviathan deck and already having King Coral in the battle zone. You summon the Scourge and then you get to choose how the effects resolve. Use King Coral to bounce all of your opponents creatures that are Level 4 or less back to their hand (most of their blockers if they have any) and then resolve Scourge’s effect to discard their entire hand, quite the combo huh?

Overall I think this is a fun card and potentially devastating one as well. I personally like his second ability more so as it allows you to have complete protection for a turn or to be able to go in for that game winning attack at their shields. Will it see play? Possibly… but it’s going to require some skilled duelist to pilot the deck. Let’s see what you guys can do!

Ratings:

Constructed: 3.50/5.00 (He can discard your opponent’s hand and protect you for a turn or ensure your victory. He’s a little slow to get out however.)

Limited: 3.25/5.00 (There are a lot of better options in limited for his level. He can make it so that you and your opponent have a clean slate in terms of your hand size and prevent some big plays from your opponent but is underpowered in comparison to some of the others in this set.)

This card put me out of words initially. Not because it is inately broken or powerful, because it was just so damn interesting.

Mindcrush -
Yugioh references aside. Wow. A creature that can discard you opponents entire hand. You think Skull Shatter is good. Creatures with Spell like effects are usually more powerful. However of course the down side is you discard you hand as well. You see I love card design like this. You can make huge plays around this card. Dump your hand for some aggression then BAM. Smack this down and laugh at their hand! This card has gotten some mixed reviews on the Pojo message boards and for good reason. Think about the laughable situations you could do if you bottle of wishes this? Fun stuff indeed. Only time will tell how powerful or useless this card can or will be. For now, some control decks definitley have new tricks.

Tempest of Tentacles -
Much like Sasha on Monday. I consider Tempest a bonus effect. You play this card for Mindcrush, and Tempest of Tentacles is just gravy. Not to mention this effect is really cool to boot. It locks your opponent out from attacking AND blocking. Get Wrecked. This effect is Fairly Straight forward and could really save your and lock out some games for you opponent. It all depends on how you build your deck and play the card.

Summary
Personally I like Squillace. A very creative card indeed. Heres two nifty combos you could do with this guy.

Kind Coral on field.
Play Squillace
Use Corals effect to bounce all level 4 or lower
Use Squillace, proceed to laugh.

Midnight Crawler on field (with opponents creatures on board)
Summon Squillace Discard
Swing with Crawler draw cards.

Have advantage on opponent.

See those are just some nifty combos. Not exactly game breaking, but there is some room for creativity!
