Hello again my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters! I don't know if you all have heard but we will be getting a second season of the Kaijudo Master Challenges coming this Fall/Winter! There will also be a Winter Championship Tournament in November, so stay tuned to Kaijudo.com for more details as they're released! Alright, back on to the subject of today's card, Dark Return.

Name: Dark Return
Civilization:
Darkness
Type: Spell
Race:
N/A
Level:
2
Power:
N/A
Flavor Text: "Death? An adorable concept." -Dark Lord Megaria
Rarity: Uncommon
Set Number: 71/165 l 3RIS

Abilities:

Shieldblast.jpgShield Blast (Instead of putting this spell into your hand from a broken shield, you may cast it for free.)
Choose a creature in your discard pile and return it to your hand.

Dark Return is a neat little spell that only costs two mana to play and allows you to take back any creature you want from your discard pile and it's a shield blast. This card has seen a lot of play in decks that focus on controlling the game and often is found returning power cards like Andromeda back to your hand to be used for a later turn.

One of the most notable combos that I've seen is using Keeper of Dawn to get back this spell and vice versa. As long as you have control of the board as is, you have a creature you can play over and over again every turn. It also allows for more versatility when used with Keeper of Dawn to be able to return other spells back to your hand. You could almost see Dark Return, in this case at least, as being a copy of any spell in your discard pile.

Probably the best part of this card is that it's so cheap to play. Usually by the time you're playing this card, you're easily able to play it and then the creature you returned to your hand! Now, this card isn't for everyone, specifically Dragon players since they have better recursion in the form of Dreadclaw, Dark Herald, but it can fit in to most decks comfortably. Give it a try and you might like what you see!

Ratings:

Constructed: 3.50/5.00 (Every creature in your discard pile is waiting for you to play this card. It's great for the long drawn out games that tend to happen with control mirror matches.)
Limited: 3.00/5.00 (There may not be a great number of creatures that you want to return to your hand.)

Don't forget to stop out tomorrow when we take a look at a very random choice of a card... but it does function well when played with the cards we've covered this week! Make sure to check out my channel for new content and until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!

Dark Return is a simple but effective darkness spell.  While not usually game-changing it can be great combo card to bring back any creature in your discard pile.  Dark Return allows you to keep reusing your best cards, giving your deck the feeling of having more than 3 copies of a creature.

Most likely this would not be a turn two play because you are going to have to wait for one of your creatures to be banished.  At only 2 mana you can play this in on a later turn very easily.  This card is decent to have in your shields as long as that shield is not broken too early in the game.

I really think Dark Return needs to be included in mono darkness decks.  Dark Return is a great card to compliment Scavenging Chimera, by providing the same effect.  The opponent is not going to want Scavenging Chimera to keep attacking and returning your creatures to your hand.  Most likely you will need Dark Return to bring Scavenging Chimera back after the opponent banishes it.

Hydra Medusa is another card that benefits from Dark Return.  It is a great play at 5 mana a terror pit in the form of a 5000 evo creature.  You can devastate your opponent by playing the same Hydra Medusa in back to back turns.  By choosing to Dark Returning Hydra Medusa you can quickly gain board control, while being quite aggressive.

I feel Dark Return is a card you need to build your deck around and will not work in every darkness deck.  For a deck that wants to recycle its banished creatures Dark Return is a must.
