Welcome back to the Card of the
Day on this Monday morning! On Friday I had
mentioned that I would be participating in a local
Kaijudo tournament. I played and went undefeated
with my Darkness/Water build. I had also teched in
Hovercraft Glu-urrgle and three Fire Civilization
cards (including two Crimson Wyvern to deal with the
Blockers). It was a fun time and I look forward to
the next tournament that we have! Well, onto today's
card, Prickleback!
Prickleback is a Level 1 Beast
Kin with 2,000 Power and the ability entitled, "Hit
and Run" which states: "At the end of each of your
turns, if this creature broke a shield this turn,
return this creature to your hand.
A very basic creature overall
but he can create alot of aggression plays toward
your opponent. 2,000 Power for just one mana is
definitely worth using. He can take out those turn
one Cyber Sprites if they should choose to block
him. The fact that he returns to your hand is sort
of a downside, however, he'll never get hit by
another creature after he breaks a shield. This does
make him slower when you want him to be attacking
shields, since you have to play him, wait a turn,
attack a shield, return to hand, play him, wait
another turn, and repeat.
The main reason most people
will use this card is because he's a viable target
for your Nature Civilization Evolutions like:
Bronze-Arm Sabertooth or Flamespike Tatsurion. He
will allow you to bring them out like they were just
another regular creature with fast attack instead of
having to wait to establish a field, you can bring
them both out on the same turn.
Obviously, this card can die to just about
anything, including Barrage, Tendril Grasp, Bone
Blades, and even Tekamora, The Wretched! Overall a
fairly balanced card that will continue to see play
for a long while as long as the player is using
evolution creatures.
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.25/5.00
(This card sets up Evolution
creatures with ease and can create an early
aggression against your opponent. This card will see
play for these reasons alone.)
Limited: 3.50/5.00
(A Beast Kin with 2,000 Power
for one mana in Limited Play is good in itself but
with two of the most powerful evolutions in the game
that can evolve from him in the pool, it makes him
one of the easiest cards to evolve from.)
Check back tomorrow when we
review a card that can provide you with more
resources, but only as much as you're willing to put
into it. See you then!
