Welcome to our
Thursday Card of the Day review on Pojo.com! I hope
you've been enjoying our week of reviews so far; we
have plenty more in store for you guys, especially
next week! Anywho, on to today's Card of the Day,
King Neptas!
Name:
King Neptas
Civilization: Water
Race: Leviathan
Level: 5
Power: 5000
Flavor Text:
The mysterious ruler of the secret seas.
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
17/55 l 4EVO
Abilities:
Spiked Shell-
This creature can't be the target of your opponent's
spells and abilities.
King Neptas has a
very unique ability in Kaijudo. In Magic the
Gathering they have an ability called "Hexproof"
which does the exact same thing; I imagine that this
is where it originated. Having a creature that is
unaffected by targeting spells and abilities is
amazing in this game right now. We don't have a ton
of mass removal cards (which would get around
Neptas's Spiked Shell), let alone ones that can get
rid of Level 5's.
Usually the best
situation to have Neptas is when he's one of the
only creatures in the battle zone. He doesn't need
to worry about Terror Pit, Root Trap, or Hydra
Medusa's effects and will usually only leave the
field when something bigger takes him down or trades
off with him (i.e. Medusa or Neuron).
Realistically
though, If my opponent plays a Neptas, I may let it
slide for a turn or so, after all, it can only break
one shield at a time. When I establish hand and/or
field presence, then I may take it out with a Neuron
if needed (Fire, Light, and Nature have more options
than Darkness and Water in terms of raw power to
deal with King Neptas).
This card can get
pretty scary if you let your opponent get multiples
out in the battle zone but it's unlikely they'll
ever get more out than two at a given time. It's
also likely that the turn after Neptas attacks, it
will get banished by every evolution card out there
(well, except for Blastforge Captain).
This card is
generally slow to play. For most decks on turn five
or six, they're already attacking to break a shield
or two with an evolution! I can see Neptas
saying this the turn he enters the battle
zone, "Heeeey Guys... You better look out...
Whale... maybe... Next turn! I'm gonna break one
shield on my next turn... Just you whait!"
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.25/5.00
(A decent tech choice for anyone running water (no
pun intended). A little slow for most competitive
play but being able to avoid any shield blast is
still pretty good.)
Limited: 2.75/5.00
(In Limited it avoids Medusa and any other spells
out there but there's just too many evolution
creatures out there that can take this card down
with ease for the same cost or less!)
Stop out tomorrow
when we review another Water Civilization card; I'm
sure it'll be a blast!
