Hey everyone!
Card Academy back again with another
review. This marverlous Monday we
have Ra-Vu's "upgrade". So lets take
a look and break down all of its
abilities one by one.
Ra-Vu The Stormbringer
Light
Skyforce Champion
Cost: 6
Power: 11000
Evolution
— Put on one of your Skyforce
Champions.
Whenever we look at an evolution the
first thing I always look at is the
evolution bait. Skyforce Champions
do not come by cheap. Here is the
breakdown of skyforce champions by
mana cost.
-
Alcadeus, Winged
Justice- 7
-
Astinos, the Cloud
Knight- 6
-
Ra-Vu, Seeker of
Lightning- 7
-
Radiant, the
Lawbringer- 7
-
Starlight
Strategist- 6
-
Starwing- 5
-
Twilight Commander-
5
-
Urth, the Overlord-
8
Those are some hefty costing bait
when compared to the mor epopular
chimeras and cyber lords which have
a myriad of 1-2 costs. So based on
bait alone Ra-Vu is already tougher
to bring out, but hopefully that
means his effect make up for his
higher cost and harder to summon evo
bait, so lets take a look.
Lightning Vortex
— At the end of each of your turns,
untap all your creatures.
Alright, so this effect is simple
enough. The ability to swing with
blockers to generate pluses then
have them untapped to curbe any
agression your opponent might do on
their turn is nifty although not
overwhelming, but what if you don't
have blockers? or what if the
creatures you have aren't blockers?
well Ra-Vu covers that.
Eye of the Storm — All your
creatures have "Blocker." (You
may tap a creature that has
"Blocker" to change an enemy
creature's attack to it.)
So although this effect is unique to
Kaijudo, we had a simliar card like
this in Duel Masters. No one used it
(except me in one tournament). His
ability to turn all your potential
attackers that can generate
advantage (aqua seneschel,
razordhide, gigastand, etc) can
create some cute tricks and can put
your opponent in a bind, but for me,
ultimately falls short of what some
of the other powerful evolutions
bring to the table.
Summary:
So overall Ra-Vu the Stormbringer,
actually brings some unique
mechanics but ultimatley falls short
of he power and speed the other
evolutions hold. His power is nice,
and I don't think he is absurdly
costed for his ability and power. I
wish he costed 5 but hey we take
what we can get. However where Ra-Vu
really loses steam is his evolution
bait. However if cheaper Sky Force
Champions come out Ra-Vu could
definitley be a real threat and
quickly end games.
Constructed: 2.5/5
Limited: 2.5/5 (If you somehow use
this in a draft/sealed can be pretty
difficult to deal with)
