Hello my fellow Duelists and
welcome back to the Card of the Day! Today concludes
our Top Ten Cards from 2013 with a card that a lot
of you should have seen coming from a mile away,
Andromeda of the Citadel. This card has been making
huge waves ever since its release back in March of
2013. This is by far one of, if not the most
powerful card in the entire game. Let's get started
shall we?
Name: Andromeda
of the Citadel
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Race: Celestial
Dragon
Level: 9
Power: 11500
Flavor Text: N/A
Rarity: Super
Rare
Set Number: S1/S5
l 6DSI
Abilities:
Double Breaker (This
creature breaks 2 shields.)
Fortress of Light- When
this creature enters the battle zone, put the top 2
cards of your deck into your shield zone face down
as new shields.
Awe Strike- Whenever
a creature attacks you, your opponent chooses one of
his or her untapped creatures in the battle zone.
Tap that creature.
Andromeda is a big ol' Dragon
that would have been a balanced card if they just
gave it the "Awe Strike" ability. Having to tap down
another creature each time I want to attack my
opponent's shields seems really good to me. Instead,
they decided to throw a couple of free shields in to
sweeten the pot. Andromeda helps players in the
current environment stabilize against rush and tempo
strategies and is often the bane of all rush decks,
outside of Eternal Haven or Infernus the Awakened.
It also allows for some silly plays involving
players putting Andromeda after Andromeda into the
battle zone. Worse yet, you can even bounce your own
Andromeda back to your hand with Piercing Judgment/Rusalka,
Aqua Chaser, and so on if you ever need to.
Once Andromeda hits the board,
the game often slows down substantially. I know I
won't be attacking any time soon unless I have some
triple breaking follow up plans in the next turn or
so. For a while people used to stall against their
opponent in a hope to deck their opponent out (an
occurrence that wasn't as difficult as it sounded
when your opponent is playing Andromeda after each
shiny and glorious Andromeda).
Andromeda will be rotating out
of the Standard format come the end of May and that
means decks are going to have to adapt even more.
Perhaps Serpens the Spirit Shifter will make its way
into more decks? Only time will tell, but until May,
Andromeda will continue to remain arguably the best
card in the game.
Ratings:
Constructed: 5.00/5.00
(As long as you can hold on til turn 9 (or sooner in
a Dragon deck) you'll be in a winning position when
you play this card or at least more comfortable than
you were. A truly amazing card.)
Limited: 3.50/5.00 (In
limited it's difficult to get out with all the rush
strategies going around. If you happen to pull this
card and Herald of Infernus, GG, you just won the
event.)
I hope you all enjoyed the Top
Ten Cards from 2013, Stay tuned for the Top Ten
Cards from The 5 Mystics next week!
Until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel
Masters, keep calm and game on!
