Welcome back all of my fellow
Kaijudo Duel Masters! I hope you enjoyed your
weekend and are just as anxious as I am to get the
Duel Day tournaments up and running! Speaking of
which, this week is sort of dedicated to Duel Days
as well as other promotional cards you can achieve
from attending events at your local stores! We start
out the week with a little slice of perfection to
balance out those Monday blues, I bring you: Dorado,
Golden Dragon.
Name: Dorado, Golden Dragon
Civilization: Light
Type:
Creature
Race: Celestial Dragon
Level: 6
Power: 6000+
Flavor Text:
There is not a single flaw on his golden body.
Rarity:
Common
Set Number:
P18 l Y1PRM
Abilities:
Double Breaker
(This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Flawless
Champion – While you have 5 or more shields,
this creature gets +6000 power and has "Triple
Breaker." (A creature that has "Triple Breaker"
breaks 3 shields.)
Dorado, much like all the other
Celestial Dragons, is named for a celestial body in
the sky. This one is specifically in the southern
sky and is depicted as being a Dolphinfish or
Swordfish. I don't really see the resemblance, but
I'm no Astronomer!
This Dragon sits at a very
solid 6000 power for a Level 6 and has Double
Breaker. These are all things that would be expected
when setting the "Floor" level for this card and
they are already included in another amazing card we
reviewed in the past: Lyra, the Blazing Sun.
Wizards, however, took things a step further and
introduced to us an interesting mechanic pertaining
to ones shield count. If you happen to have 5 or
more shields, this card gets bumped up to 12000
power and gets Triple Breaker!
Odds are if you are running
some control variant deck utilizing the light
civilization, you are probably using Andromeda of
the Citadel (if not, you're probably wishing you
could get your hands on this $35+ card). It's very
plausible that this card will enter the battle zone
with its heightened stats, if not you can always
give yourself more shields later to make its effect
kick in.
This card can get even more
ridiculous if you're playing with the Fire Birds in
your deck. Dorado can realistically hit the battle
zone by turn four and unless you're playing against
a rush deck, you will likely still have all or most
of your shields by that point! So this card can fit
into a deck that focuses on shield regeneration as
well as Dragon decks just as easily.
The downside to this card also
happens to be its ability. Much like Ragefire
Tatsurion, all you need to do to get around his
ability is to attack a shield (For Ragefire, if you
attack a shield and it's not a blast, it will go to
your opponent's hand, rendering his ability useless
for the turn). If your opponent goes down to 4 or
less shields at any given time with Dorado in the
battle zone, its power gets cut in half, making it a
much easier to deal with target.
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.25/5.00 (This card is playable in a Dragon deck,
Cobalt Control, or a deck that just focuses on
shield regeneration in general. At its worst, it's a
decent card with basic stats.)
Limited: 2.75/5.00 (If you use this in a Limited environment with
cards just from DSI, then this card is alright but
nowhere near as good as it could be in a deck that
can regenerate shields. The only card that can make
that happen in this set is a Super Rare and isn't
the easiest of cards to get a hold of currently.
There are just too many Dragons with more power that
can deal with this card without his boost from his
effect.)

next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm
