Happy Friday everyone! I just
recently uploaded a new video to my YouTube account
showcasing two exclusive preview cards from Wizards
of the Coast! Make sure you stop by there (the link
is under my name) to see the awesome cards we'll be
getting next month! Alright, we're ending our week
of tournament level cards with one of the strongest
removal cards for the Nature Civilization, Root
Trap.
Name:
Root Trap
Civilization: Nature
Type:
Spell
Race: N/A
Level: 7
Power: N/A
Flavor Text:
"Nature's way is the Law of the Jungle: survival
of the fittest." -Master Chavez
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
156/165 l
3RIS
Abilities:
Shield
Blast (Instead of putting this spell into your
hand from a broken shield, you may cast it for
free.)
Put target enemy creature from the battle zone into
your opponent's mana zone.
This is the Nature Civilization
equivalent to Terror Pit. This card can get rid of
any creature on your opponent's side of the battle
zone at the cost of giving them a free mana boost.
Conveniently though, this is also a shield blast, so
it allows you to get some removal for free on
occasion.
In almost all situations I
would say that Terror Pit has the upper hand on this
card, however, with the recent introduction of Lux
and Orion, Radiant Fury back in Evo Fury, there's
now a legitimate reason to want to put one of their
cards into their mana zone; it won't trigger their
effects! What makes it even better is when your
opponent normally relies on retrieving cards from
their discard pile and they can't anymore since it's
now in their mana zone instead!
Root Trap has always been one
of those cards that has been on the fence for me
since I don't like to give my opponent an advantage.
I've noticed though, that sometimes a slight
advantage can be the difference between winning and
losing, even if you're giving that to your opponent,
it may be just the push that you need to win the
game.
Ratings:
Constructed:
4.25/5.00 (Gets rid of any creature in the
battle zone and can be potentially played for free.
It does give your opponent free mana though and in
some cases, multiple due to evolutions.)
Limited:
4.75/5.00 (Amazing removal for the limited
format. Save it for when it counts!)
I hope you enjoyed my review
and again, make sure to stop on over to my YouTube
channel to check out the new preview cards I
received! Stay tuned for next week's cards, when we
take a look at some potential "sleeper" cards in the
game! Until
next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm
and game on!
