First of all, I would like to
take a moment for all of those who were affected by
the bombing that happened yesterday in Boston. There
are plenty of people in the Kaijudo community that
live in Massachusetts and I imagine they have been
affected by this tragedy as well. My thoughts and
prayers are with them, the runners, and all of their
families.
Now, I know it's hard to come
back from that but why should we let terrorists in
our society stop us from doing what we enjoy?
Today's card is notably one of the better Trench
Hunters we have in this game and for good reason.
Today's card is Rusalka, Aqua Chaser.
Name: Rusalka, Aqua
Chaser
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Race: Trench Hunter
Level: 4
Power: 1000
Flavor Text: "Rusalka, stop him!" -Master
Nadia
Rarity: Uncommon
Set Number: 61/165 l 3RIS
Abilities:
Psionic Rebuke- When this creature enters the
battle zone, you may return target creature from the
battle zone to its owner's hand.
Rusalka is a level 4 Trench Hunter with 1000
power. By these standards it would be a really bad
card, however, it happens to have one saving grace,
it can bounce any one card in the battle zone back
to the owners hand!
This is often the follow up to
the turn three play of Aqua Seneschal to allow him a
free shot at your opponent's shields. It can also
slow the game down significantly for your opponent.
Let's say they got stuck with a bunch of level 4
creatures in their hand, they play one and have to
wait for it to attack. Next turn you decide to drop
Rusalka and put it back into their hand, forcing
them to summon it again. That is almost like
making your opponent simply pass their turn!
Another neat combo you can pull
off with Rusalka is bouncing your own creatures back
to your hand! I know that can sound a little crazy,
however, at times it can prove to be genius! Imagine
stacking Hydra Medusa on top of another Hydra Medusa
after already having it on a Gigabolver. You simply
summon Rusalka and bounce it back to your hand and
all of its materials underneath it come back to your
hand as well, leaving you with more advantage that
will be able to banish your opponent's cards next
turn and the following turn!
There are numerous combos that
can be done with Rusalka and it will continue to see
play in the months ahead. However, that doesn't mean
that this card doesn't have its weaknesses too. It
will die to everything... well, except for
cards like Comet Missile, but I think you get my
point. It's easy to deal in most decks and is
completely shut down by Infernus the Awakened. All
these things don't really make it any less playable
though. I would expect to see a lot of this card at
the upcoming KMC's.
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.00/5.00
(Versatility and bouncibility are what sell this
card. It still has plenty of weaknesses but its
strengths vastly outweigh them.)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (Rise
has a lot of big creatures, why not bounce them back
to your opponents hand and make them cast them all
over again?)
