That Guy That Plays DreamBlade

BAXAR THE SOULSTITCHER

Its about time we get to him. The superhyped, feature piece that gets a set named after him and his struggle against the Bloodcuts. There is better storyline info on the main page, so I'll skip that. He's a 10 cost figure, with 5 - 8/11. Now being the celebrity of the set, you figure you could give him better stats. Even to keep it non-broken, he could of gotten away with 1 or 2 extra defence and life. Guess they assumed his effects would make up for it. In a way, this is true. However, when playing with him, I thought otherwise. His first effect, Call, allows you to recruit a guy in your grave right next to him once a turn, given you can pay the character you are reviving's spawn cost. The second, Deathboon, is a single blade that brings a mini to your reserves if you can kill a local character. Call seems like the obviously better ability, but it requires being in a scoring cell. While this can be hard in the later game, it can pay off big. Being able to bring back your Fleshless Reaper or Voodoo Manipulator is crazy. If you got spawn points, you can even go for Dreadmorph Ogre. Personal favorites to revive are Hammerhead and Shard Troll (Hammerhead given a good position to win, Shard Troll if Baxar is engaged and I have character advantage).

Now Deathboon on the other hand is pretty weak. Most of the time, you'd rather just put the minis on the field rather than wait to bring them out. It can be useful though, to bring back smaller guys to fill up spots in your curve that might result in wasted spawn points. Other than that...I dunno. Now how do you set up for abilities like this early? The easiest is to use creatures with Appease or Corpsebuilt (this one is better) to fill the grave early with the character you want to get back as soon as Baxar hits a scoring cell. Then, get out fodder pieces that will be able to retrieve spawn points to get Baxar out and move him up as soon as possible. Email me at Tallbob1112@yahoo.com if you want to see the warband I made with him or if your just plain interested on using this piece.

Constructed - 3/5 - Overrated, but it did win the SoCal 10k for the guy who made Baxar Toolbox. You should probably focus your warband on getting the most out of him.

Sealed - 3.5/5 - Just as good here, cause there are good odds you'll get a Butcher to set him up, plus there is less disruption.

Artwork - 3/5 - Cool stuff, but make him BIGGER!!!

Baxar the Soul-Stitcher

Tell me again why we haven't reviewed this guy already?

I mean, good god man, this is right up there with Scarab Warcharm. He's a 5/5, straight up. MAYBE 4 if you don't like great stats and an awesome ability that has some nasty combo tricks with his Citadel and some On-Spawn abilities. Seriously man, unless you hate fear, hate recursion, AND hate... whatever the hell Baxar IS, you're gonna play him if you have him. I can see a FEW bands that might not like him (The Kitsune based bands being one of them), but a hefty chunk of the Anaheim 10K players liked him plenty, and I do too.

Short review. It's that obvious people

5/5 across the board, except for sculpt, because I don't think even the designers know what the heck that's supposed to be. Why no knitting needles? Can't stitch souls without knitting needles. Magical knitting needles of EVIL.
