That Guy That Plays DreamBlade

LOCKJAW

No Valor today kiddies, but I may throw some more on for next week. Our final pick of the week is a Madness Baxar piece. Now, I dunno, but it seems like Madness has been the bottom of the barrel as of now. Aside from DHC builds and few Janus builds, it really hasn't done alot to compete with the high tables of 10Ks. I dunno, I just thing the extremely low defense for really high life doesn't make them THAT playable. Prove me wrong. Either way, you guys saw how I butchered Bogillian. We'll we may have gotten worse.

Lockjaw is an 8MMM girl. This makes her near impossible for early game. with that cost, her stats are 2 - 4/7. Not what you'd expect for an 8 drop with triple aspect? Same here. Any near broken effect? You decide. Lockdown is a come in to play ability. You choose a cell upon arrival, and no pieces can shift out for the turn. Yes, even yours I believe. And no, it doesn't prevent blade or spawn phase movement abilities. Now in order for me to play this girl, her cost would have to be 5M, or even 5MM or 6M. But 8 has no effect, as it will have little effect on the game being that the opponent will probably have some abilites to get out of the cell. Another ordament for the Christmas tree...

Constructed - 1/5 - Too expensive, and alot better pieces to choose from. People keep telling me that it is good with Baxar himself, but would you really wast 8 spawn points for a mediocre stall effect?

Sealed - 1/5 - Bogillian is better here...nuff said.

Artwork - 2/5 - She-Man with a pipe cane? I'm missing where this girl is Madness

Charninja

Lockjaw

Ha. On first look, this chick is nothing short of utter crap. Leave it to the guys at WotC to make something like this a key piece in one of the best combos in the GAME.

For 8MMM the stats are nothing short of sucktastic. That's right people, this chick only has TWO power. Most figures of her cost have at least twice that, with four power, and some even have more (Chrysalis Spinner being a favorite). Her other stats, at 4|7 are even WORSE. And to top it all off, an otherwise awesome ability can only be used once, when she's spawned.

Or can it?

Ya see, that's where Baxar and Citadel of Torture come in. Lockjaw is, for all intents and purposes, Baxar's little slave girl. He Calls her to his cell after she was fed to Equitar or Butcher, then Tortures her in his Citadel so he can bring her back next Spawn Phase. Too bad it isn't an infinite loop, but pulling it off a few times will REALLY screw with your opponent. Generally, I'd suggest you aim for Locking down their portal, but if there's anything you are worried about, go ahead and lock it. Do try to be careful though, because her ability DOES affect your creatures. Of course, if you are confident you can kill them and just don't them escaping so easily, this is a great thing. This works wonders against Brighthammer Avenger and whatever other Charge pieces may be out there, and also shuts down last time's figure, Raging Vanguard pretty well.

There are a few problems, of course. Figures can be Advanced or Skirmished out of cells that have been Locked Down and can be shifted normally afterwards, so Scarabe Warcharm probably will come to the rescue on annoying occasions. Also, like I said earlier, Baxar can't loop Lockjaw with Call and Torture, so you'll only be locking down one cell a turn, which is a bit of a bummer, but if you just imagine how friggin' awesome it would be if you COULD lock down an unlimited number of cells... yeah, that's why. And again, you can inadvertently catch your own allies in the Lock Down, which usually isn't much fun.

But hey, it's a combo piece. It's a bit of a hassle, but considering how you can also do the same thing with Angel of Sunrise and any other On-Spawn ability (which so far are limited to Appease and Corpsebuilt, other than Lock Down and Haste, but will no doubt grow as sets are released)... Baxar's Citadel of Fun could be a band to rival Chessmaster in the future.

Constructed: 4/5 Please, as if you'd use her for anything OTHER than Torturing and Calling.
Limited: 1/5 Unless you pull Baxar, Citadel, and something with corpsebuilt... and your odds there are pretty much nil.
