...Other than Dragonball by: andy

I've been watching DB for quite a while now and consider myself an anime fan. The other day I came to a conclusion, though. I truly was not an anime fan. There are so many anime's out there that have not been brought to america, yet. When you think about it you can not call yourself a true anime fan when you were introduced to an anime in its dubbed form. That is exactly what got me into DB, the FUNi dub. I always thought that DB was the greatest anime ever...period. I did not realize that it is not. The other day I watched most of the Flame of Recca series. A lot of people have problems with that series, but I enjoyed Flame of Recca even more than I enjoyed watching DB. I have seen a few other anime movies, but I plan on buying the Galaxy Express 999 subs and I also plan on buying a few of the GW series. There are a lot of different kind of anime's and different types of art forms that need to be seen.

So what made me want to write this editorial? Well, most of the time I write editorials out of anger and that is one of the reason's I am typing this. The first reason was that it has been awhile since I have written anything, but this is the second reason. The other day when I was in a message board I came upon a post. Now I could tell from the names, typing, and things a long those lines that it was a dubbie that posted this. He basically said that the first anime he has seen is Dragonball and that he saw the FUNi dub. He then went off to list his top three favorite anime's, which were all Dragonball, and said that he had no reason to watch any other anime's because his mind was made up. How can you do that? Watch one anime and then make up your mind. That is like trying on one pair of shoes or eating one kind of food and automatically naming that your favorite. Sometimes it is hard to find other anime's. The only websites that have to do with anime that I visit are all DB related. So where do you find other anime's. Well, a friend of mine who runs SSJ Anime sells Flame of Recca and also has Gundam Wing, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and is getting Rurouni Kenshin. I know of DB Goten's fansub distro in which he sells a number of different anime's. If you make your way over to DB Blast you will see a number of anime reviews.

I just want to say that you shouldn't watch one anime and then just stop at that. So, you have DB fansubs and you think it is the best anime ever. Well, if you take the time to buy other series I wouldn't be surprised if you found an anime you liked better. Now in no way am I trying to turn the whole DB fanbase away from Dragonball, but I just want people to learn to appreciate other anime's and to experiment with other anime's before making up your minds. In finishing I will focus on something I touched on earlier. I love DB, have spent over 1000 dollars on DB merchandise, and have managed multiple sites. The other day I found an anime that I have never seen a site on, never bought any merchandise that had to do with that anime, but I still love it and maybe even more than Dragonball. If that surprises you, you may also be surprised to find out that the same thing can happen to you.
