Pojo's Dragon Ball News
Serving the DBZ Community non-stop since 1999!

Archive July 2005 - December 2005

Friday, December 30, 2005   Our final DBZ Card of the Day for the 05 year is from the  Showdown expansion set -- Namekian Friendship. Mr. Buu, Musashi, Rob f and GDK have reviews.

Brendan and Brigid think they have a list of people would make far better character voiceovers for the DBZ anime. Check 'em out for fun.

Wednesday, December 28, 2005   Today's DBZ Card of the Day from the Showdown expansion set is Gohan: Playful Saiyan Lv. 2. GDK, Trunks, Rob f and AJC468 have reviews.

Tuesday, Tuesday 27, 2005  Lenamae24 and vtliec have some What If's for you today. What if Goku had lived against Radditz? And, What if Mr. Satan really was the most powerful fighter on earth?

Monday, December 26, 2005   Today's DBZ Card of the Day from the  Showdown expansion set is Vegeta, Saiyan Warrior. GDK and AJC468 have reviews.

Here's another look at that Japanese Hand Activated Dragon Ball Z game from Yahoo News.  "This Japan-only Dragonball Z game hooks straight into the TV and has a small camera that picks up hand motion, thanks to these grey strips called Dragonhands. It looks kind of like DDR, only for very emotive people.  Hold your hand in an open palm to block, make a fist to punch and place both palms forward to unleash a kamehameha blast. You can play through the story mode and battle your favorite villains like Frieza and Vegeta. Or try out mini game mode and help Goku scale a wall.  This thing costs about $65. Where else but Japan can you play a game called "Goku Scale a Wall"?"

Friday, December 23, 2005   Today's DBZ Card of the Day from the  Showdown expansion set is Vegeta, Oozaru. GDK, Rob f, AJC468 and Musashi have reviews.

Thursday, December 22, 2005   Today's DBZ Card of the Day from the  Showdown expansion is Goku, 100x Gravity Trained. GDK, Rob f and Musashi have reviews. AJC468 comes out of a long retirement to review.

Wednesday, December 21, 2005  Pojosama's fault for not having any COTD's the last couple of week's.  We'll be back tomorrow with a look at a new Goku card.  If you are interested in volunteering for Card of the Day, or writing featured articles, feel fee to drop us an email

Here's an interesting gaming device in Japan: "Hand-activated Kamehamehas for DBZ fans in Japan - Wanna wave your wrists and move something on your screen instead of watching another Revolution controller demo? If that’s what you’re after, a motion-detecting TV toy is soon arriving in Japan, this time catering to gamers of the Dragonball Z persuasion.

The game works by utilizing a camera on top of your TV set to pick up “dragonhand” strips you strap on your fingers. Thus, you can give Vegeta the beatdown with your own hands he’s always deserved." source

Slashdot's review of DQVIII.  DQVIII has art by Akira Toriyama.  ;-)

Thursday, December 15, 2005  "One game cartridge. Double the Dragonball RPG. Two of the most exciting and best-selling Dragon Ball Z games of all-time return for a whole new generation of players as Atari, Inc. today announced the company has shipped Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku I & Legacy of Goku II 2-in-1 Pack for the Game Boy Advance. Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku I & Legacy of Goku II 2-in-1 Pack features the complete Legacy of Goku and Legacy of Goku II -- the best-selling DBZ GBA games of all time -- on a single Game Pak. With hours of role-playing, fighting and action gameplay, Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku I & Legacy of Goku II 2-in-1 Pack gives fans who are new to DBZ a chance to experience games that have thrilled millions of players." - full story

Lawrence (formerly DarthNaps) asks "What if Goku wasn't a 'dead beat dad'?" in our DBZ What If's.

Monday, December 12, 2005  We have some fun new What If's. "What if vegeta didn't become a z fighter?" Or, "What if trunks came to the present late?" by Adam Henslee. And, "What if Raditz had a lower power level?" from John Murphy.

Friday, December 09, 2005   Today's DBZ Card of the Day from the  Showdown expansion is Orange Amazement. GDK, tjmk and Matthew Low have reviews.

Thursday, December 08, 2005   We have another one from the Showdown set today. Our DBZ Card of the Day is Krillin's Predicament. GDK, tjmk, Musashi and Matthew Low have reviews.

Wednesday, December 07, 2005   Our DBZ Card of the Day from Showdown is Black Assistance. Musashi, Super, GDK, Matthew Low and tjmk have reviews.

Some DB DVD News from Funimation: "Dragon Ball – Movies 2,3, and 4 - Contains the following movies:

Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle
Goku and Krillin are given an assignment by Kame-Sen'nin: "Retrieve the sleeping princess from Lucifer and I will take you as my students." But the mission proves to be more perilous than originally thought.

Mystical Adventure
The adventure is a retelling of the meeting of Goku, Tenshinhan, and Chiaotzu. Also of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai.

The Path to Power
This retelling of Dragon Ball's origin has a different take on the meeting of Goku, Bulma, and Kame. It also retells the Red Ribbon Army story; but this time they find Goku rather than Goku finding them.

Monday, December 05, 2005   A couple loyal readers have put on their questioning caps and asked What If?  John Murphy wonders out loud What if Piccolo had fused with both Dende and Nail? And, Rotosoft revisits What if piccolo fused with the entire namekian race?

Friday, December 02, 2005   Today's DBZ Card of the Day from the  Showdown expansion is Zarbon, Transformed. GDK and Matthew Low have reviews.

Thursday, December 01, 2005   We get into December with another DBZ Card of the Day from Showdown. Today it's Bulma - Capsule Princess. GDK and Matthew Low have reviews.

Wednesday, November 30, 2005   We'll try and kick start our DBZ Card of the Day reviews again now that some of the holiday bustle is quieting down. Let's get the party started with Gohan's Anger from the Showdown Expansion set. Richard Barbee, GDK and Matthew Low all have reviews.

John Murphy asks What If Goku became a Super Saiyan when he fought Nappa and Vegeta? What if indeed. Check it out!

Monday, November 28, 2005  We have another quicky What If. Nilofer asks "What if Nappa and vegeta were supersaiyan when they came to earth?".

Wired has a nice review of Dragon Quest VIII: "Illustrator Akira Toriyama (famous the world over for the Dragon Ball anime) designed the game's characters and monsters. And though they are rendered in 3-D, the cel-shading techniques employed make them look like traditional animated characters brought to life.  It's even fun to get into battles just to see Toriyama's wacky creations (and their associated attacks, which are often as amusing as they are debilitating). The bestiary teems with clever puns: A rabbit with a single horn is called a "bunicorn"; a more powerful version a "spiked hare."

Monday, November 21, 2005  What if there was no DBZ? Who could think such a thing? Certainly not DarthNaps and John Murphy who have brought us a couple What Ifs much more fun to think about.

Friday, November 18, 2005  Dragon Ball Z makes DS debut -
"Atari's Supersonic Warriors 2 introduces tag-team three-on-three fighting to franchise in first installment for Nintendo's portable.
Apparently letting gamers take control of anime characters whose epic one-on-one battles could destroy small planets as collateral damage just wasn't enough for Atari, as the publisher has introduced three-on-three slugfests to the Dragonball Z series with its game."- more from Gamespot.  This game hits shelves next week.  You can pre-order this game from Amazon.com & get free shipping.  ;-)

Thursday, November 17, 2005  Eurogamer has a review of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi for the PS2.

Friday, November 11, 2005  Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury is reviewed today in Pojo's Friday News.

Wednesday, November 9, 2005  There's a triple set of What Ifs...? posted for your enjoyment. What if Vegeta transformed into Super Saiyan against Frieza instead of Goku? What if Goku had learned to become a Super Saiyan before he reached Namek? And, what if Bebi took over Pan instead of Trunks? All pertinent questions with fascinating results.

Tuesday, November 8, 2005  Gamespot has a review of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi for the PS2.

Gamespot also has a sneak preview of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for the PS2.  The main character looks a lot like Goku.  "The characters are all bright and colorful, and they have a distinct anime look to them. In fact, you could easily take one of the characters and drop it into a Dragon Ball Z game and hardly know the difference. This makes sense, since famed Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama designed the characters for this game."

Friday, November 3, 2005  We popped in a new What If...? today from Donald Pace: What If Raditz power level wasn't so low?

Thursday, October 27, 2005  We popped in a new What If...? today from Huy Nguyen: What if Gohan actually caught the earring?

Matthew Low is back in his DBZ TCG Help Section again today with a lot of help for one reader.  Check it out.

An Email from Randy J. that we're posting because we agree with him 100%: "I'm new to the dragon ball Z community (34) and my son (14) is also we are so into its ridiculous. Wednesday, October 12, 2005   The next TCG expansion for the Dragon Ball Z TCG will release on Nov. 23rd.    The expansion centers on the uncut episodes 32-66 of the Dragon Ball Z series and includes Saiyan and Frieza saga, which features the end of Goku’s fight with Vegeta and the first half of their trip to Namek. We'll have more details as they become available.

Monday, October 03, 2005   Donald Pace asks a What If...? Future Trunks would have just taken a space ship to New Planet Namek instead of a time pod to the present? The mind boggles!?!
