How to...Write An Editorial By: andy

When exactly do you write an editorial? Well, the answer to this is that you write an editorial when you want to express an opinion or you want to clear something up. Your words can be a powerful thing, so right now I am going to give you a few tips on expressing your opinion while sounding good.

1. OK, here it is. The number one thing you want to do is to get your point across and make it clear. I have read a lot of writings where someone babbled on, but never really got their point across. If you don't get your point across then your editorial is a complete waste.

2. Now that I have told you the number one rule here is number two. In an editorial there is no place for swearing, bad grammar, and spelling errors. All this does is show that you are ignorant and that people should not take you seriously. When you write something, make sure to spell check, spell check, and spell check. As far as swearing goes, that just shows that you have no creative ways to show your emotions. There are many other ways to express how you feel.

3. The following is something that I don't see all the time. Never ever use all caps or vary caps and lower case letters one after another. All this does is show how stupid you are and nobody will take you seriously.

4. You want to get to the main point, but you should keep it entertaining. Don't write an editorial that will only be 2 paragraphs and have 4 sentences each. Whenever you talk about something you should always elaborate on things. Explain what you are saying. You will leave no confusion in people's minds.

5. This is somewhat of a minor detail, but can be very important. Whenever you are talking about something never use the word it. If you are talking about a car don't say "I drove it", that will leave confusion. Instead, you should say " I drove the car".

6. Lastly, if you have to decide between writing too little or too much…. Choose too much. The reason being is that if you write too little, confusion is left and if you write too much all it will do is hammer in the opinions you are writing about. All I have to say is to never leave confusion because it will take away a lot of the power out of your editorial. So, if you follow these few tips I am positive that it will improve your writings.
