How to....receive hits By: andy

It's has been a while since I have done one of these, but let's give it a try. In my e-mail box the other day I received an e-mail that suggested that I do a How to.. on getting traffic. So, I think I can give you some basic what to do's and a hell of a lot more what not to do's..

What you should do to gain traffic.

As I sit here and ponder this question, there is only one thing that keeps popping in my mind. Build an original sit that has something new to offer. That is it. If you want a site that will gain popularity and hits it absolutely needs to be original and offer something new. If not why even do it, it isn't worth it and is a waste of your time and ours. On top of that, you should submit links to places like Planet Namek, Daizenshuu EX, and even Pojo's DB. Getting linked always helps, but what gets you linked it your site, you need to be original. So there you have it, the how to on getting visitors, and now for what not to do.

What you should not do to gain traffic

Well, to be honest there are a whole lot of things that I do not agree with and a lot of other people don't agree with also. Now let me getting something straight right here. Someone can have a popular site, but there are two very different reasons why this will happen. The first is because their site is respected; this is the way to do it. The other way is because they have a lot of hits. A ton of sites have million's and millions of hits, but they suck, that is about as blunt as I can put it. So now to get on with the list, yes, in every how to... I have a list and this how to.. is no different.

1. When you register for a counter, don't preset the counter to already have a million or so hits. I don't even know what to say about this, it is ridiculous, but people do it.

2. Don't sit around and just keeping hitting the reload button. Visiting your site to see how something looks and trying to rack up hits are two totally different things.

3. OK, now that we have the stupid one's out of the way we can move on. This is something I really don't agree with. The top site groups. I think it is a cheap and tricky way to get hits. Almost every person on one of the top site lists (I refer to the top site list's were you have to click on a banner to vote for someone) does the following. They throw some scripts into the html so that when you go to their site you automatically vote for them. Not only does this piss most people off, it is just low.

4. Nowadays everyone loves to have affiliates. You go to a site and see 15 buttons down the side of the site and they are the person's affiliates. I'm sorry, I do not agree with them and most people don't when. A site that does affiliates is almost like a lower form of a website. I can only put it this way, they don't get you a lot of respect.

5. OK, this rule is almost a branch off of the last tip, but this is a personal matter I have to address. Now I am not going to mention any names, but everyday I get an e-mail to join a person's top site list. This person has 50 or so other e-mail address's that he sends this letter to. All this does is piss me off and it doesn't help him out. Mass e-mail is not an option, do not do it. Just don't....No, don't even think about it, just forget it ever even existed.

6. So, now for the final rule I want to address. Don't go around and gather every big time webmaster's Screen Name and then when you see that they are on-line go ahead and IM them to death about linking you. It won't work, trust me. If you want to be linked, e-mail the person, and only when linking is open.

Well, that should help you out a little bit, I would have liked to say more about how to actually help you, but there isn't a whole lot, I told you all that you need to know. Go out and apply this and I am sure you will receive positive results.
