Subject: Re: What Should I Use At Philly?? Low Speaks About Originality and Change ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: LJ R Date: Sun, 28 Dec 2003 15:39:13 -0800 (PST) Hi i was wondering if you could help me with a few questions i have with allys. I cant decide what deck to bring to the Philly expanded regionals. I know that the GT part of it will screw over a lot of decks and create new top tier deck types. I love ally decks but there are a couple problems. I have no Z warriors Gather and I dont know who to use as an MP. I dont even know if i should use an ally deck. If built right would an ally deck stand a chance at regionals? (this is my first regionals) Anyway i thought you could help me out since you have been to a lot of tournaments and I know you play ally. I would use Supreme West Kai no tokoui (sp?) waza but i dont have level 2 and 3. I'm thinkin maybe Roshi... I dunno. I have some good cards but I dont know what type of deck to bring to regionals. What is top tier right now and what do you reccomend i use? I do know that its kind of hard to help me because the regional will be in GT format and will use GT cards as well as Z cards but please i need all the help i can get. Thanks --------------------------------- Heh, sure I can give you a few pointers: First off, you really shouldn't fret. May is like 5 months away. By then Baby Saga and maybe even Super 17 Saga will be out. Baby is one big Saga, and that means a bunch of different archtypes will be created. There are only a few different kinds of people that should make their decision now: those people are people who either a) already know what the cards do, and b) people like me, who regardless are going to play a certain archtype. The people like me are more or less insane, because we have to make something work even if it is not supposed to. I have to study and tech and work with my deck to make it work, even though it isn't supposed to win with the archtypes out there. Second off, don't copy me. If there's one thing that REALLY irks me is copying me. I mean, if you can make a copy of my deck AND win with it, and ask me first, then sure. I've found very few people who can do that. My deck thrives around many Ultra Rares and Uber Rares. Z Warriors Gather is one of the biggest engines in the deck. Without it, my deck would lose around 50% of its steam, seeing there's no ally searcher that comes even close to the magnitude that ZWG gets them out. First turn ZWG (or Energy Lob) + drainer can mean good game, trust me. Think: first turn hand, ZWG, Blue Draining Blast, some energy attack or something. Enter, Draining for 8 (paying 8 stages because starting at 5 above, PUR 2 and Victorious Drill). Then ZWG, pulling 7 allies. Let's say we pull 4 allies that do an energy attack doing 4 life cards or so, and then Roshi, Bardock, and Oolong. Use Roshi/Oolong to make my allies do +2 life +2 stage, then swarm with the allies. That's a net damage of 12 from Roshi/Oolong, and 32 from the other 4 allies. 32 + 12 + 8 = 52. Then there's the random energy as well. Normally you don't kill your opponent, but you come so close in the next few turns you'll have it (note You're Invited). I mean, you can kill your opponent on turn one, but it doesn't happen too often. Thing is... do you think you can pull that off? My deck is very wacked out and messed up I highly doubt there are very many people who can take it and make it work. Not to mention the fact that if you don't get the quick win you have to nuke most ally tech first (like Cell's Presence) to prevent a breakdown. Do I think ally stands a chance? Right now... no. Bojack is the only ally that really stands a good chance, with maybe Android and Earth's Spirit Bomb as a lower tier. I of course will make it work regardless. Roshi is a good MP for hero ally because of his manipulation ability, but honestly he was crippled with the lower to top 6. That and the Roshi ally is just broke. Right now, the top tier decks are, as far as I know: Piccolo Multiform Broly Saiyan Physical/Anger Supreme West Kai Red Physical Bojack Black So my final answer is... play what you want. Playing with someone else's deck normally doesn't work as well as if you are the creator. That's one of the main reasons why my ally deck works for me and mainly me only. If I gave my ally deck to a random person most likely that person would not do as well as I would. Time will change a lot of things. You should right now play what you want to, and when April/May comes around, then start thinking if you want to modify what you are currently playing or stick with what you have. Many people I know make their deck the night before in their hotel room. Just be patient, play and mess around with what you want to play, and when the time comes, make sure you are as ready as you can be. Good luck. But one thing I recommend is keeping at least one deck that you can modify, because if your new creation flops, you can still go back and use your good old reliable deck. -- matthewlow@franceslow.com "You will not be allowed to do this to anyone else!" - Gohan --
