Dogmatika Maximus
– #ROTD-EN009

You can banish 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster from your GY; Special Summon this card from your hand. During your Main Phase: You can activate this effect; send 2 monsters with different names from your Extra Deck to the GY, also your opponent sends 2 monsters from their Extra Deck to the GY, also you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn. You can only use each effect of “Dogmatika Maximus” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Dogmatika Maximus does what Punishment does, just better.

Weaker ATK, but great DEF, Maximus can be easily Special Summoned with the mere removal of an Extra Deck monster from your grave, set up via Dogmatika Punishment maybe?

As stated at the start of this review, Maximus is a better version of Punishment. While it can’t immediately remove cards on the field, the monsters it sends to the grave will do that for him. You are locked out of your own Extra Deck for the turn, but that is the theme of this archetype. You not only are dumping monsters into your grave with Maximus to get their grave effect(s), you are setting up to use them later on potentially as fodder or beaters, and Maximus forces your opponent to get rid of two Extra Deck monsters. Most Extra Decks aren’t prepared for Maximus and can’t part with an Extra Deck monster before using its effect(s), that is a big hit to take, especially if going first and you force your opponent to take a loss before they even get to play. Unlike Punishment as well, Maximus only locks you out for the turn, not until the end of your next turn. There will be times you need your Extra Deck and Punishment will be just that, a Punishment for you as well. Maximus is a card that could be thrown into many other decks because of its utility and stats: LIGHT, Level 8, Spellcaster, there is so much synergy out there in the game for a card like this, and 3000DEF is a beefy wall to get by.

Advanced-4.5/5

Art-5/5- Second favorite art of the archetype, if not maybe even first, this archetype has great art

Today we get to one of the optional Dogmatikas as it can be risky to run with the opponent playing around it, that being Dogmatika Maximus.

Maximus is a Level 8 LIGHT Spellcaster with 1500 ATK and 3000 DEF. A great defender and not so great attacker, but it still keeps LIGHT and Spellcaster as a plus. You can banish a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster from your graveyard to Special Summon this card from hand, which should be easy to set up with either Nadir Servant dumping something from the Extra Deck for a search or you using Aleister the Invoker in Invoked variants to Link into Salamangreat Almiraj and then use that for Secure Gardna to have the Almiraj in grave to banish. During your Main Phase, you can activate this effect to make both you and the opponent send 2 monsters from the Extra Deck to the graveyard of your choice at the cost of not being able to summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, which again you can just do the Extra Deck plays first. This can be fun to send 2 monsters with graveyard effects to gain some advantage, which I gave a few examples yesterday and this time you can send any of them, the only negative is that the opponent also gets to send. Now they might not always be playing around this, but a meta where you know this could be used against you makes players more likely to craft their Extra Deck around it with some of the same cards you’d want to send, or the opponent can send and trigger Cyber Dragon Nova off your Maximus to summon Invoked Mechaba and you just gave them a free negation. It’s a risky effect, but played right and you should be just fine, plus this is probably the most optional Dogmatika out there right now. Each effect is a hard once per turn, which is fine to prevent you from trying to dump the opponent’s whole Extra Deck alongside yours. It can be a pretty good piece to disrupt the opponent’s plays by getting rid of cards they might of intended to use, or it can backfire on you with the opponent getting graveyard effects. 1 is fine if you’re playing it, just use it wisely.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5

Art: 4.5/5 One of the higher-ups of the Dogmatika clan by the looks of things, they do have some great designs.

Dogmatika Maximus is a bigger Monster for today, still being Light/Spellcaster (which is still awesome) with 1500 attack but a mighty 3000 defense.  Removing an XYZ, Synchro, Fusion, or Link Monster from your Graveyard, however, Special Summons this card from your Hand.  So do so and drop a 3000 defense body on the board, and you’re sitting pretty.  Once a turn, you can dump two Monsters from your Extra Deck of different names to your Graveyard, which forces your opponent to do the same.  That’s AWESOME, forcing your opponent to dump two cards from a Deck that’s already that small.  There’s no guarantee, sure, that they stay gone, but this can be incredibly disruptive to your opponent.  Special Summons, especially form the Extra Deck, are so important.  As is par for the course, you can’t Special Summon from your Extra Deck the rest of the turn you use this effect, but here since you’re chipping away at the opponent’s, there’s no issue at all.  Great card here.

Art:  5/5  I like this a lot.  I get more Dark vibes than light, but I think that’s more from the background and setting, as opposed to the actual Monster.
