Hello Pojo Fans,

Dispatchparazzi is a new Link 2 that is alright, but not great.

Two effect monsters is pretty generic, but 100ATK is awful for a Link 2. Changing the attack target to Dispatchparazzi just so you can destroy it and then gain back half the destroyed monster’s ATK isn’t worth a slot in the Extra Deck in my opinion. You’ve got archetype-specific Link 2 targets and generic Link 2 targets that can help you advance position, while Dispatchparazzi doesn’t really do much for you. A 1-for-1, you are still taking damage and then only again back half the destroyed monster’s ATK. If you took no damage, then gained half the ATK, I could see that being nice, or a once per turn not destroyed by battle alongside no damage and gain ATK to LP, but nope, Dispatchparazzi isn’t any of those things.

There are better 1-for-1 monsters that require less and do more for you.

Always interested in these random one-off monsters in main sets, whether in the Main or Extra Deck, and today we have one in Dispatchparazzi.

Dispatchparazzi is a Link-2 DARK Fiend with 100 ATK and arrows pointing Left and Right. Fine arrows if you’re getting this in a Main Monster Zone, laughable ATK, but a nice combination of DARK/Fiend. 2 Effect Monsters summons this, so easy enough. When another monster you control is targeted for an attack, you can change the attack target to this and perform damage calculation, which seems awkward to swap an attack to a 100 ATK body unless you really want to protect a monster, cause I can imagine you’ll take decent damage from this. At least this makes up for it where it being destroyed in battle lets you destroy the opponent’s monster that destroyed this and gain LP equal to half the ATK, so hope the monster you’re baiting into this doesn’t have destruction protection, though the opponent reading this will likely make them attack this first with something they don’t mind running into this card. Hard once per turn on each effect, but either way 2 monsters just isn’t worth summoning this when there are many better choices.

Dispatchparazzi is as odd a name as the picture on this card.  Link 2, Dark/Fiend are great, 100 attack, and arrows pointing to the immediate left and right here.  Any 2 Effect Monsters are required for Link Summon.  So this guy can help temporarily protect a Monster of yours by switching an attack from another Monster of yours to itself.  Helpful, I suppose, but less so when you only have 100 attack.  When destroyed by an opponent’s Monster, you can (for whatever reason, it’s optional, which I suppose could be good, as you may not want to trigger the Grave Effect(s) of an opponent’s Monster sometimes) destroy that Monster.  If you do, you gain Lifepoints equal to half the original attack of that Monster.  That’s rather interesting too…say your opponent destroys this with a 3000 attack Monster.  You destroy it and gain back 1500 Lifepoints, but you lost 2900, so that’s no good.  If it’s something smaller, say they just ran something with 200 attack over this, then you’re losing 100 and gaining it back with this Effect for no gain or loss.  So your opponent can play that one however they want, still leaving you with the option to destroy that Monster in question, assuming this Effect successfully goes off at all.  Each Effect, is also, once per Turn.  This card WANTS to be good, but it’s not good enough, and fairly situational, despite available options, and I just don’t see it being enough help regularly enough to be all that good.

Art:  Umm…I get it, and I don’t get it.  I’m not familiar with the type of thing I’m looking at here.  3.5/5?

On this episode of Pack Filler, we have Dispatchparazzi, a link 2 DARK fiend monster with left and right link arrows. It only needs 2 effect monsters, so if you ever need this specific arrow formation, it’s a decent alternative to Proxy Dragon or Binary Sorceress. Dispatchparazzi has a horrendous 100 attack, though at least it makes sense given the effect.

Both of Dispatchparazzi’s effects are a hard once per turn, par for course these days. Dispatchparazzi can make itself the target of an opponent’s attack in place of another of your own monsters. Additionally, when it’s inevitably destroyed by an opponent’s monster by battle thanks to its pitiful 100 attack, you can destroy that monster and gain LP equal to half its original attack. The effect is pretty neat, though unlike something like Mirror Force, it is predictable. It only works during the battle phase, so your opponent can just get rid of it or your other monsters using card effects. That said, it is a mild deterrent for protecting your boss monsters if you happen to have 2 random monsters left after building your board. Otherwise, there’s not much Dispatchparazzi is good for. If you need to get rid of a monster ASAP, Knightmare Cerberus is faster and more versatile. If you need a link 2 board capper, Predaplant Verte Anaconda combos are much better. If you need to gain LP…stop thinking about gaining LP. I can see potential for it as a “whatever” option in Evil Twin and Unchained decks since they both have fiend locks. I’m not sure if it’ll come up often, but it’s an option!

Advanced: 1.25/5

Art: 3/5 The monster itself is pretty funky, though I’m sure it’s a Japanese pun that got lost in translation.
