Hello Pojo Fans,

Our Countdown 2020 on Pojo continues with #5: Crystron Halqifibrax.

Halqifibrax FINALLY reached the TCG this year and its impact was immediate, as expected. Link 2 requiring a Tuner, which if you play a hand trap you have one right there. Deck thin and Special Summon upon Link Summon, you could also Special Summon from the hand, but you’ll take the deck thin. Halqifibrax is an auto Link 3 if this effect goes off without a hitch, but then you get the Quick Effect during your opponents Main Phase. Halqifibrax trades itself for a Synchro Tuner of any level and makes it a Synchro Summon. There are a lot of good Synchro Tuner monsters that give you advantage, notably Formula Synchron, Wonder Magician and Coral Dragon. Life Stream Dragon is the strongest with 2900ATK for a pure power push. Martial Metal Marcher also is a choice that will wall up your field even more upon its Synchro Summon.

Halqifibrax is so easy to summon and gets you so much advantage during either turn. Decks that don’t run any Tuner monsters aside from the hand traps will sacrifice one for this monster. Decks that naturally run Tuner monsters got a weapon they’ve waited what felt like eons for.

We start week two with the number 5 card, which I didn’t think it’d be this low at the beginning of the year, especially when we consider its power got cards banned before its release and cards banned after its release. Glow-Up Bulb, Blackwing – Steam, Destrudo, Jet Synchron, O-Lion, and arguably even Linkross were banned to keep this in the game. Anyways, from Duel Overload we have Crystron Halqifibrax.

Halq is a Link-2 WATER Machine with 1500 ATK and arrows pointing Bottom Left and Bottom Right. ATK is about standard on Link-2, WATER is a good Attribute, Machine is a great Type, and arrows are great considering OCG got this midway through MR4. The summoning requirements are any 2 Monsters, including a Tuner, so it’s easy for anyone using Synchros. Upon being Link Summoned, you can Special Summon a Level 3 or lower Tuner from the Deck that cannot use its effects on field that turn. This is fine considering not all Tuners got effects useful on field. Glow-Up Bulb and Jet Synchron revived themselves at a mill or discard while Steam and O-Lion gave you Tokens to replace themselves, but they’re banned so your next best target is Plaguespreader Zombie to revive itself by putting a card on top of your Deck, not as optimal as Jet or Bulb. During the opponent’s Main or Battle Phase as a Quick Effect, you could banish this card to summon any Synchro Tuner from the Extra Deck, treating it as a Synchro Summon. Great way to get to another Tuner, most of which let you Synchro Summon on the opponent’s turn alongside some effects like a draw for Formula Synchron or a send from Deck with Shooting Riser Dragon. Each effect are a hard once per turn, which is the best attempt at balance on this card. This took so long to get to the TCG, mostly since it couldn’t coexist with Firewall Dragon or Summon Sorceress, and its release still got several Tuners banned, which could justify its low placing since its full potential is long gone with everything banned and Firewall only coming back with an errata. I just hope we ban this in 2021 and get some of those Tuners back, Mecha Phantom Beasts needed O-Lion and Synchrons needed Jet Synchron.

My #5: Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon

Prelude:  Let’s just say this week didn’t go as well for me as last week (most notably as my list was only Monsters because…it just was).

#5:  Crystron Halqifibrax
Position on my List:  N/A
My #5:  Adamanciptor Risen-Dragite

This is a Link 2, Water/Machine (odd combo as Water tends to be bad for Machines) Monster with 1500 attack and arrows pointing to the respective bottom diagonals.  Any two Monsters can be used for Link Summoning, so long as one is a Tuner.  This card is rather splashable in a variety of Decks, not just in its own Theme.  Being able to Special Summon a Level 3 Tuner (with effect(s) negated) is a good thing.  At the very least, it opens you up for another Extra Deck play.  Obviously being a Tuner very likely a Synchro Summon, but maybe another Link or XYZ instead.  A Quick Effect, which is already awesome, as it can be done during your opponent’s Main or Battle Phase, lets you remove this card from play to Special Summon a Tuner-Synchro Monster from your Deck.  Giving up one card like this to bring out a bigger, stronger one is fantastic.  Keep in mind this card has to be removed from play for this effect wile on your Field, not in your Graveyard, but since it can be done during the opponent’s Turn, that should rarely be an issue  It’s small on its own but it does a lot of beastly things.  Fantastic combo card.

Rating:  4.75/5

Art:  4.5/5  I do rather enjoy the monster and the armor, as well as the glowing aura.  These guys usually have very nice artwork.
