Now for two Trainers... Name: PlusPower Type: Trainer Card #: card 84 of 102 Rarity: Uncommon Text: Attach PlusPower to your Active Pokemon. At the end of your turn, discard PlusPower. If this Pokemon's attack does damage to the defending Pokemon (after applying Weakness and Resistance), the attack does 10 more damage to the defender. Name: Defender Type: Trainer Card #: card 80 of 102 Rarity: Uncommon Text: Attach Defender to 1 of your Pokemon. At the end of your opponent's next turn, discard Defender. Damage done to that Pokemon by attacks is reduced by 20 (after applying Weakness and Resistance.) History: Pluspower and Defender are actually called Attack X and Defense X in the Pokemon game. Injecting Pokemon with certain chemicals makes them able to resist damage or deal more damage, allowing them to win more easily. Strategy: Two powers that are very similar, but very different. On the surface, one boosts offense, one boosts defense. However, having played with both of them, Defender is more a combo card, and Pluspower is more a situational card. Let's see: Defender: The way to maximize Defender's usage is to use it in a combo. If a Pokemon has an attack that deals damage to itself, not only can Defender reduce this damage, it can also reduce the damage of the incoming attack from the other attacker. However, you might not have that luxury, and then you have to use it to save a Pokemon from dying. It could be 1 turn you can use to KO the other Pokemon. Pluspower: Use this when you're just 10 HP away from KO'ing a Pokemon (duh). The way the HP system is setup in Pokemon makes this very easy. Hitmonchan, Pikachu L14 (Jungle), Scyther, Electabuzz, Jynx, Charmander, Machop... all these Pokemon are either 50 HP or 70 HP, so if you have a 20 (50/70 HP) or 30 HP (70 HP) attack, it takes 1 less turn to KO them... which means that you're 1 step closer to victory. Strengths: -Defender usually exceeds its original specifications -Pluspower can KO a Pokemon in 1 turn less Weaknesses: -Defender often only delays the kill by 1 turn if your Pokemon was almost dead in the first place -Pluspower only works in certain situations, or in tandem (in which case you lose card advantage) Combos: -Defender + Magnemite/Magneton/Chansey/etc. = prevent 40 points of damage max! No Ratings this time (although I'm thinking Pluspower is better than Defender)
