Branded Beast – #DABL-EN073

Once per turn, during the Main Phase, if you control a “Bystial” monster: You can Tribute 1 Dragon monster, then target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy it. During the End Phase: You can target 1 “Branded” Continuous Spell/Trap in your GY; place it face-up on your field. You can only use this effect of “Branded Beast” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Branded Beast, despite seeming to be not the best card, saw meta play as a sole way to get Branded Regained back on the field.

Continuous Trap that is a 1-for-1. You have to tribute a Dragon-Type monster to pop a card your opponent controls. I don’t like the idea of popping my 2500ATK Bystial just to get rid of a card my opponent has, even if I get a search or Special Summon destruction or Foolish Burial/Foolish Burial Goods from one of my Bystials. Using this to pop Starliege Seyfert to get it in the grave or popping a Rokket monster is another possible option, but this is meant to be used alongside the Bystials. That is the effect though: Branded Beast is selective destruction. Would be better if it would banish, would avoid activating destruction effects.

As mentioned in my intro sentence: Branded Beast is paired with Branded Regained. Target a Branded Spell/Trap in the grave and place it back on the field. Recycle Branded Regained over and over to keep gaining the advantage that Regained can generate for you. You can only target Continuous Spell/Trap obviously, so Regained is your best option outside of Branded/Bystial. Within the archetype you would go after something like Branded Lost, Branded Befallen if you are running dedicated Bystials, or Branded in Central Dogmatika if running Ritual Monsters within Bystial/Branded, but lets be honest…you’re using Beast to get back Regained.

Slow because it’s a Continuous Trap, is an okay 1-for-1 but you don’t wanna give up a Bystial unless you really have to or really want their grave effect, and you’re playing Beast so you can keep getting stuff off of Branded Regained.

Art-4/5- It makes me smile knowing that (SPOILER) this guy lost the fight at least for now. Been all in on Albaz x Ecclesia for a while.

From the Spell to the Trap, we look at a nice disruption piece for Bystial/Branded in Branded Beast.

Branded Beast is a Continuous Trap with a soft once per turn effect during the Main Phase while you control a Bystial monster to be able to tribute any Dragon to target a card the opponent controls and destroy it. The conditions are easy to meet, and in return some Quick Effect removal is good, even if it is targeting and destroying. It also helps you benefit from the effects like Bystial Druiswurm for more removal or Bystial Saronir for Deck thinning and graveyard setup. You can even send a Continuous card since during the End Phase, this can target a Branded Continuous Spell/Trap in your graveyard and activate it back to the field, which is nice. It is a hard once per turn, so you can’t get your backrow completely setup off this lone card or multiple copies. Branded Beast is probably the best Continuous card for Bystial since it is removal and it gets the other ones back, or even another copy of itself if you wanted to. It might be a Trap, so you’d have to set it and wait, but there’s a way around that.

The other Bystial backrow in its first wave, Branded Beast is a Continuous Trap, part of the Branded sub-archetype. While you can technically search it with anything that works with Branded cards, like Albion the Branded Dragon, it’s not recommended unless you’re playing a lot of Bystials. Otherwise, Bystial’s sub-boss will search Branded Beast just fine. The first effect is a soft once per turn (though not very economical if you fire it off too much), letting you tribute a Dragon monster if you control any Bystial to target and destroy one of your opponent’s cards. One-for-one destruction as disruption is still pretty good, which is necessary considering few Bystial monsters have any inherent disruption on the field. In hybrid builds, you can use Beast to clean up any leftover Dragons on the board, though usually you can just send the monster that actually searched Branded Beast. Beast’s other effect is a hard once per turn, letting you place a Branded Continuous Spell or Trap from your Graveyard to your field during the End Phase. This’ll usually come into play recycling Branded Regained or Branded Lost if you’re playing it, so it can be pretty helpful in the grind game. Overall, like Branded Regained, it’s not very helpful if you’re just splashing Bystials, but in hybrid decks, it’s additional disruption, so no complaints.
